Here is one of the nicest pin cushions I have seen. Anyone would like one of these in their sewing room. http://sew-whats-new.com/CMS/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=71&Itemid=30 MaryW

Speaking of pincushions.... Can you buy the emery to put into home made emery bags? I don't think I've ever seen any. I assume it's a powder. Or maybe there's a readily available substitute? I want to make a BIG pincushion with an emery bag for sharpening. The dress form thing is cute, but I would be more likely to use it for needles. I need a pin cushion that's always right-at-hand and can be moved from room-to-room. "No more twist! No more twist!"

DragonLady, could you not use sand? I think that would keep the pins sharp and rust free. Washed sand (playpit) obviously, not builders sand which would stain the fabric.

I read somewhere that you can use steel wool.
Take care,

Steel wool might be a good idea. I think sand would dull them - it might make them shiny, but I can't see how it would make them sharp.

Yes,steel wool is recommended. I've used it for several gift pincushions. Always told them not to wash it though. It does sharpen pins & needles. I used the 0000 steel wool. |

I used the 0000 steel wool. Where do you get it? I'm guessing you're not talking about a box of Brillo... Andrea

No brillo! You can find steel wool in a hardware store (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.) in the paint department with sand paper, etc.) Steel wool comes in different grades like sand paper. Patsy Patsy

Hopefully this is the right place to ask this question... Do any of you know where to find a pattern for a puzzle ball pincushion? A friend of mine made one as a toy for her baby, but lost the pattern after that. Apparently the pieces are stuffed and can be fit together to make a ball. My research tells me that these were popular during the Victorian era, but I can't find a pattern anywhere! Any suggestions? I appreciate your help. Ellen |

I have the pattern somewhere I think, Made one for my son. I also think Sewbaby has one as part of a larger pattern collection. Mia |

I also have that pattern. I'll have to search also. Think it's in one of my Mom's old quilting mags. If I can find it I'll let yoou know & mail a copy to you. |
