I know this is a long shot, as it is hard to described and figure out types of fabric without seeing or feeling it (at least for me), but I am trying to figure out what type of fabic to make a robe out of. My mom had a robe from Vanity Fair that she totally loved, but it is now over 20 years old. I thought I would try to make her a new one, I found a pattern that is similar to the one she had. However, I don't know the type of fabric that was used. I asked my mom and she said that it was some type of cotton, but she couldn't remember what type. It was I guess kind of fleecy, but definitely not a polar fleece. I have found sweatshirt fleece, but that is not it either. It did have the same feel on the inside as on the outside. Does anyone have any idea what type of cotton fabric this could be? Thanks for any suggestions!! Kim |

It may be French fleece. A cross between fleece and terry towel and very soft.

Vanity Fair used to use a lightweight fleece fabric that was nylon or polyester and was fleecy on both sides, but also was lightweight.. We used to buy the robes all the time.. Had an outlet where we could get the irregulars ... (they used to have a factory in NC) .. I still have some of that 6 inch wide lace from a half slip that I wore out... The lace is still good as new..The slip I purchased in 59 as part of my trousseau... I can still find that lightweight fleece today, but it is not fleecy on both sides.. only on the right side..

It wasn't a brushed cotton? That can feel soft and cuddly.

I know that they sell the fabric that you are talking about at JoAnns! When I was there a month or so back I felt some...( I'm a touchy-feely kind of gal).. My Mother had some PJ's made out of that fabric as well...I think hers was Vanity Fair as well. I want to say it was called Brushed Back Satin....Check this site out~ fabric (http://store.yahoo.com/phoenixtextiles/fabric-apparel---fashion-fabrics-flannel-fabric-flannel-backed-satin.html) This site is for fabric.com... Hope the helps! (Look over by the flannel fabric, there was one that had breast cancer awareness ribbons on it :o) (at Joanns) mgf~ Blessings & Smiles

It could not have been all cotton.. May have been a blend, but the inner base was a loose woven netting sort with the fleece being the finish on both sides, all done in a very lightweight fabric..the base fabric was a synthetic..Lately, when I see this kind or what looks like it, it isn't durable.. (fleece wears off and leaves the base shining)

"cuddle satin" is what they call it here, makes great robes, sleepinmg tops ect, it is a satin on the oustiside and and a super soft flannel on the other side. |

At JoAnn's we have a material that is called Sew Comfy, that has a satin base on one side and a flannel on the other. I have made PJ's with this and I like it lots. Summer Summer
