Necessity breeds invention. My favorite kind of craft is the homespun variety that you make with whatever you have onhand when the need for something pops up unexpectedly. A few weeks ago, my 3 year old got a last minute invitation to a princess dress-up party. We were instructed to bring along a princess dress for her to dress up with at the party. Well....we don't have one of those, but we pulled some odds and ends together. We were getting ready to go when I realized that this little princess didn't have a tiara. So I went rummaging and found some floral wire and made a crown-sized hoop. I found some organza ribbon and loosely wrapped the wire with it, tied a bow in the back and made a long streamer to drape down her back. I had a string of little plastic pearly beads, which I wrapped around the tiara, over the organza. It clipped on with a barrette. I daresay, this princess had a lovely tiara for the party, a welcome addition to her dressup box. My favorite kind of craft is unplanned, fills the bill, and is enormously satisfying.
