Here is your chance to learn from a real pro.

Japanese Tailoring Workshop with Judy Barlup
August 8-12, 2005
Mt. St. Vincent University, Halifax, Nova Scotia

This class is limited to 12 students. During the week, students will complete a tailored jacket or coat using the techniques that Judy has learned from the ready-to-wear industry in Japan. This technique combines the fine detailing of traditional tailoring with the speed and ease of contemporary tailoring to produce a quality garment. Judy Barlup has adapted this system for use by professionals and home sewers in constructing men's and women's coats and jackets.
Students are asked to prepare a muslin of a jacket which Judy will fit on the Sunday before the workshop. Students must bring their own sewing machines and provide all materials for the workshop.
Cost is $650 Canadian. Travel and accommodation are the responsibility of each student. Affordable accommodation with meals is available on site in the student apartment-style residence.

As well, Judy is doing individual pant fitting on the Friday and Saturday before the workshop (Aug. 5 and 6). She will measure each person, prepare a pant pattern for them, they will then make a muslin and Judy will correct the fit, then give them an individual pant pattern. Included in this is Judy's booklet with instructions on how to make any style of pant from a pattern that fits. Price for this is $100 for those who are taking Judy's tailoring workshop and $125 for those who are not.

For information on either of these classes, please email Julie Culshaw of Timmel Fabrics at

I should add to the above thread. Judy said if you can make a blouse, you can take this course and be successful. She is very patient and to the point which is why her classes are so popular.
