I have been sewing for years, yet cannot figure out what to do to fix this problem I have...

My pant legs seem to always "turn in" ! The pants legs seem to "twist" inward! They also seem tighter in the front than the back. When I climb stairs for example the front part expecially on the thigh pull tighter than normal (It seems anyway!)

If I iron in a crease using a proper method...it always seems to be on the inside line of my knee cap instead of down the centre of my leg.

Could it be that my big tummy? Although I had this problem even when I was slim.

Anyone got a clue for me? :Canada:

My guess is that the crotch is too narrow from from front to back. I would make it up in a muslin and look at adding a little in the front crotch area first. See if that works. There is probably a book on the proper way to do this but I don't recall seeing a formula for measuring this. Since the pattern is twisting from the front I am guessing that the addition needs to be in the front area. It is possible that is it also pulling from the back and you just can't see it. I do know that the crotch measurment is taken from the front waist through the crotch all the way to the back waist but it has been a long time since I have needed to use that type of formula to determine how deep to make a pattern since some extra has to be added to allow for sitting. I doubt that it is a problem with weight, some of us are thicker front to back and other side to side...our family has the wide hips (and thunder thighs).

Oh Pam...thanks for taking the time to think out my problem. You are definately right in going to the body "design deffect"! Big stomachs are a problem in my family. Do take a look at the forum for Pattern Drafting. That is another suggestion that I am anxious to try. I took a really good look at my body in the mirror this morning (aaagh!) and I do think my legs themselves twist. My prefered stance is like a duck.

So now I will try both of suggestions received and hopefully I will have a truly comfy pair of pants that I can make many many colours and be oh so fashionably gorgeous!

Thanks for your answer
