I have been sewing for years, yet cannot figure out what to do to fix this problem I have...

My pant legs seem to always "turn in" ! The pants legs seem to "twist" inward! They also seem tighter in the front than the back. When I climb stairs for example the front part expecially on the thigh pull tighter than normal (It seems anyway!)

If I iron in a crease using a proper method...it always seems to be on the inside line of my knee cap instead of down the centre of my leg.

What do I need to do to adjust my patterns?

Anyone got a clue for me? :Canada:twisting pant legs

Hi Josch and welcome to Sew Whats New. :Canada:

Twisting pant legs are usually from your pattern pieces now being laid out on the proper grain of the fabric. When you are laying your pieces down, be very sure the grain lines and arrows are straight.

Thanks for answering Mary....I guess this is not a problem other folks have. It is not putting the pattern on the straigt grain. I have been very certain of that.

My problem is more a body shape thing I think...even in store bought pants, the crease seems to fall to the centre of my leg rather down the "median" say the middle of my knee caps.....and when I move (walk, climb stairs etc.) the pants legs want to curl inwards....almost like I do not have enough fabric there.

Curious eh? (that is my Northern Ontario accent talking!) I noticed that some folks looked at my message, but you were the only one who answered. Me thinks that other sewers might be just as stumped!

The pant leg folds to your inner leg, like there isn't enough fabric. This means you may be a touch bow-legged. More fabric is needed on the lower section of your pant legs. If you were to sew a pair of pants, you would adjust the pattern below the knee. Move pattern piece toward the outer side seam on both front and back an equal amount.

If you look honestly at yourself in the mirror, do your legs bend towards each other or out from the knees when you are standing up straight?

Oh my goodness...that may be it!
I think I might be slightly bowed! I will try to may a pair of pants and let you know!

Thank you Thank you...I just never went there in my thought processes. I actually may need to move the pattern over from even higher on the leg...because it is on the upper thigh that I first notice the turning.

I will let you know what happens. (Don't hold your breath though, I am awfully busy these days with 3 grandchildren coming over for March Break!)

Oh I can hardly wait to try out your idea!

Thanks again
