Does anyone own on of the sewing cabinets with the air lift mechanism that lifts the machine up and down as required? If so, do you like it and does it work? I would like to install one in my cabinet so I can lower the sewing machine down to make it level with the cabinet so I can do free-motion embroidery easier but I need to lift it up to use the free arm. Not sure where to buy just the mechanism but I'll worry about that after I get some input on how usefull they are. Thanks Violet I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

I have a horn cabinet which has a lift system which is what I think you are talking about - I am not technically minded. I have adjusted mine so that I can lower it for flat bed for quilting. I bought a plastic insert from my sewing machine dealer to fill the space around the machine-apparently each machine is different. I think there was a discussion about this not so long ago over on patternreview.com good luck Skye |

I also have the lift on my Horn cabinet. I love it. You can adjust it to just where you want or need it. You can buy what you need to make your own lift but I'd have to ask DH where. Mine came with the cabinet. Also the insert. I've never used the insert as have never needed it. I really think you'd enjoy having the lift. |

Well does anyone know where I can buy just the air lift? I have the cabinet I want it installed in. My dad made my cabinet over 30 years ago, just a few years before he died and I treasure it - but it needs updating. Violet I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

I'm sorry, I guess I spoke too soon. I ask my DH where you can get the air lift & so for he can't remember where he saw them. If he remembers I'll be sure to let you know. Hope in the meantime someone else might know. I'll even call around to see if I can find something out for you. |

Hey Beachgirl, My friend just got a horn cabinet with the air lift and she is having problems pulling the release button or lever in the back of the cabinet when she wants it to go up and down is she doing something wrong. I thought it was suppose to just push down to go up and push down to come back down. She is trying to make a string or something so she doesn't have to reach way under the cabinet to get to the lever. Clue me in so I can tell her if she is doing something wrong. Hugs Susie |

Susie, Mine has no lever. I have the machine on mine & I place the palms of my hands on either side on the top of my machine & gently push down. That will bring it up or down. It will stop in several positions if you want. If she has any problems, tell her to contact her dealer or phone Horn co. at 1-800-882-8845. My cabinet is the model 2056. They should all work the same I suppose. |

I'm going to try and see if I can go to her house and help her with this. She asked the man who came out and set it up for her to help her out with this problem and he told her it had this lever. She might have misunderstood. She's not very attentive when people tell her insturctions I think so that might be the problem she might have misunderstood him. Thanks for the info. |

I bought my cabinet from Sears and it has the air-lift. I rarely use it because my bobbin is front loading and every time I want to change or fill a bobbin the machine has to be up on top. I just leave it there.

Violet and others interested, Here is a link to the air lift mechanism: [URL=http://www.rockler.com/findit.cfm?cookietest=1&page=2&sid=AF580[/URL] I have not posted in quit a while, glad to be back. I could not make the URL into a clickable link, hoping that when the info gets to the list it will be clickable. Did a google search to find this. Kathy P in Buffalo Seems it is not working (at least in the preview). If someone could instruct me how to do this, I will be most grateful. |
