I haven't got a copy in hand ...yet...but, I just read online that the January 2005 issue of Consumer Reports includes sewing machine ratings. I'm shopping for one now, so it'll be worth the trip to the library to see what they had to say in the report. Thought I'd pass that along. Has anyone seen the review?

I believe I saw some of the ratings on line from Consumer Reports. I really think more of the ratings from the owners and users on PatternReview, Quilters Review and Epinions. All are on line with on going discussions especially Sewing World. When you see the same complaints or praises daily from the users that is on going..you sort of get a taste of what the lemons and what the best machines really are. |

This is my first post. I have a 15 year old Bernina 1001 that I use to piece my quilts (a new hobby post retirement) but anything bigger than a crib size is difficult to quilt. Can anyone recommend a home sewing machine with a wide 'opening' that a large quilt can be maneuvered under? I can't afford a professional quilting machine (the ones on a frame with handles and rollers) but really prefer to machine quilt rather than hand quilt my projects. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, mimi |
