I am sewing a skirt using a crepe-type fabric, but it is fraying really badly... Is there something I can put onto the edges to keep it from doing this until it is all sewn up?
Thanks!

You could try fray check or pinking the edges or serging the edge.

Even a simple zig-zag would help.
Years ago (Not THAT many years, Mary and Jan, so don't start!) I used a treadle machine with nothing but a straight stitch. My girls were little and I used a lot of corduroy and would straight stitch around the edge and even that helped a lot.

Would Seams Great solve your problem? It encases the raw edges and gives a nice finish.

Thanks for the advice... I have tried zigzag stitching and it's a bit better, but it is still very delicate. I am in Spain... I don't know what Seams Great is...? I went to the notions shop and they showed me some kind of spray used for basting and fabric glue, but I'm not sure if any of that would do?

There are several products out there. They usually come in a little bottle with a "long nose" for application. They you just run the tip along the edge of the fabric. It applies a coating to the edges that keeps the fabric from fraying. Test your fabric. They sometimes dry stiff or they can change the color of the edges. The color problem isn't such a big thing if it doesn't show on the outside. In the states the names are something like Seams Great or Fray Check. Each company has their own product name.

Seams Great is the brand name for a thin material that is precut to a small width. This is folded over the raw edges (like bias tape) and straight stitched or zig-zagged down to finish the raw edges. You could cut your own material to make this. It is important that it be thin (to not distort your fabric) but densly woven (so it doesn't ravel) and then cut it on the bias , also so it doens't ravel.
