I'm interested to know how to: from a sweat shirt, make a quilted-like design,I seen it on a lady, she said it was a gift, seams like they place a piece of color fabric in the wrong side of the shirt sew it all arround, sew squares in the middle, and cut the top of the shirt so little pieces show from the color fabric, any ideas? thanks |

I've found some instructions in a (very) old crafting magazine. Hope this is what you are looking for: Turn sweatshirt inside out and spread flat. Pin right side of contrast fabric face down on wrong side of shirt front. Carefully machine stitch around outside edge of contrast fabric. Using ruler & chalk, draw vertical, horizontal, or diagonal lines on contrast fabric as desired. Stitch along these lines. Trim thread ends and turn sweatshirt right side out. Using sharp scissors, carefully cut sweatshirt fabric 1/8" (3mm) on one or both sides of stitched lines as desired. I saw these shirts at a Christmas craft fair, and they had used white, red or green sweatshirts with contrasting Christmas cotton fabric. Always meant to give them a try. Sorry can't send a pic, my scanner is on the blink. Elly |

Olga2623 SewNews had an article on doing this on a fleece jacket a couple of years ago. I made one and for the inside material I used some material that I had got one time and then wondered "what the heck was I thinking". I used black fleece for the top layer and then some wild stuff for the inside layer. It's basically like ellymolin states in her message, only I started from scratch with the jacket. When I put the two fabrics together I basted the edges together and then did a basting stitch down the center of the sleeves and body ect. to hold everything to keep it from moving and proceeded from there. If you like I can try to find the date of the magazine for you and you can see if you can get one. |
