Well today my baby Bob had surgery....he got sick over the weekend and the Dr found a free floating tumor and one on his kidney/adrenal gland.
Thats 4 ferrets in 18 mnths that have had cancer....average is 1 in 3 ferrets will get cancer....so I don't know whats going on here....neither does the vet.
(or his tech's or my neighbors, or, or, or.....) Of course this tumor is NOTHING like anyone has seen, so we're sending it to the lab, because we're ALL curious. ( Marshall Farms ferrets have the highest insidence of cancer....trouble is Bob is NOT from Marshall Farms....he's from Canada actually and no I don't know where in Canada he's from.)

But he looks like a million bucks....he sniffed my hair ( to make sure it was clean....he makes sure I wash my hair EVERY day) and he's up and about..Tomorrow he might get to come home....

I know you all don't really care about me and my ferrets...but they're all I have...I have no family, except my sister. I have my pets, my home and my hobbies....Thats why I only talk about what I know...
But I really do sympathize with all your problems with family, kids and such. I just don't say so, because I don't really know what to say sometimes....I'm not good with kids (thats why I never had any....). But I do read almost all the posts in here.... :bg:

Thanks for letting me vent....I'm usually alone, so heres where I do much of my talking during the day....

You have my sympathies. I had to put down a pet rat a few years ago because of a cancerous growth on his chest. It was really, really sad. We were just as attached to him as to any cat or dog. My daughter bought him with money she earned selling lemonade (she was about 7), and he lived for several years.

I don't think it matters what kind of animal you have. They all become our 'babies', and feel just like members of the family.

I care about you and your ferrets. My daughter's ferret died last summer. That little guy saw her all the way through college and most of law school. It's too bad he didn't make it to see her graduate.

Chrys,
Sorry to hear about the trouble you have been having with the ferrets. Hope you and the people around can figure this all out. Pets are like family and when they are sick, we hurt.

Sorry Kath, The way things go around here I sometimes wish I had ferrets instead of 3 boys. They can be a handful and I know your ferrets can be as close to you as children can. Any pet for that matter. I didn't have any pets when raising my sons because the only one we did have became so close to me when she died I said no more and that was it. She was a German Shepard, she had babies every year and I took care of her like a she was my daughter. She was an outside dog but I loved her and grieved for her when we lost her. Keep us posted as to how your baby does when she comes home. We understand and care. Hugs Susie

Chrys,

I, too, care about you and your ferrets and know how attached you can become. Hopefully your Bob will soon be well and will not have any more problems.

I live alone and have a cat and bird which I talk to as if they were human. The bird talks and, I suppose in her way, the cat does too. I may be losing the cat pretty soon as she is old and diabetic.

I consider the time spent in here as "visiting time" and do enjoy it.
BTW, I think you live about 150 miles west of me.

I know exactly how you feel about your little family. I was the only one of four children who ever wanted a dog. My mom finally gave in when I bawled my eyes out because my little lizard died. With my own kids we have had fish, hamsters, bunnies, dogs, birds, and a hedge hog. Each time we have lost any of them it has been dismal. Good luck to you.

My hubby gets very attached to animals. When I had to put our dog down, it was a very sad day. Now we have this crazy cat that thinks she owns him. LOL.

Bob can come home today...I'll go pick him up in about an hour. He didn't look as well today as yesterday. But he was acting better. (not quite so drunk...ferrets make funny drunks)
Thanks everyone...

Luv...your cat has a good Mom...

I think all of us that have pets, try and think of them as kids. They are, sometimes MORE than kids....kids usually grow up and go away....pets are always children...

Kath

almost forgot...I live in Crestview, (N of Fort Walton Beach, east of Pensacola, it's a small town...one freeway exit..thats all we rate...)

I hope your ferret will be okay. I know how you feel. I get very attached to our pets. We have 3 cats and 3 dogs right now. Our rat terrier is the "baby" now. (she turned 1 year old yesterday)
I would take in every stray that comes around if not for hubby.

You can talk to us about your "babies" any time you want. Please know there are plenty of us here that care and understand.

I had a friend who had a ferret once. Cute little animal. He slept in a hammock. I think I could get attached to one if hubby liked animals as much as I do. I'm pushing it now with 3 cats. :re: The rat terrier is his. :bluewink:
