I've been trying to decide whether or not to buy a book called 300 Paper Pieced Blocks by Carol Doak. I've not really done paper piecing to speak of, but want to learn. What little I've done was very fun and interesting. Just wanted to know if anyone has purchased this book, and what do you think about it? It also has a CD-ROM with it to print off the patterns from.

I have not tried paper piecing but I also would like to give it a try.Have you looked on e-bay for the book. Just a thought it might be cheaper to buy it there. When you give it a try let me knoe how it was.
Good luck

I did a paper pieced quilt (for over the fireplace) and two paper pieced pillows for the sofa-- used Carol Doak's book for them. Great instructions, but you must get the 'add a quarter' ruler and it makes it easy.

I am planning a yellow and blue paper pieced star quilt from her book "50 paper pieced stars." Just gotta figure out how the layout will be. Probably will do something on point. Will use my EQ5 for designing the layout.

I will say the paper pieced blocks have very perfect points. When people comment on the perfection, I just say 'aw shucks.'

Go for it!

Arizona Stitcher: I do have the "add a quarter ruler" the 6 inch one. It is very handy, for other things as well as paper piecing. I haven't ordered the book yet, but I am going to soon. Thanks for the encouragement.

so tell me, JoanieB, did you start with paper piecing yet? To me, it's a love/hate relationship. I liken it to driving in the UK -- yes, we know how, but we have to re-learn it each day as we start out. I have to get my head around paper piecing, but once I start, it just flies! The perfection is what I love. (but it can get messy, with cutting off the excess over 1/4").

So when you complete this, we wanna see a digi pic!!!! (I have put off my blue/yellow star quilt til God only knows when. My optimism of thinking I could start it this summer is indeed a blonde moment -- what was I thinking?!)

Glad you have the add-a-quarter ruler. It definitely increases the 'easy' factor. (and I love easy).

Go for it, Joanie, but show us the results.

Hope all your stitches are happy

Those that paper piece just love it. My sister did placemats with that method and her points were absolutely perfect.

i am more on the hate side of it, the mess drives me nuts and at times waste of fabric and then having to take all that paper OUT after  but then i have done maybe three smaller things, little wall hanging from pp but it is not something i look forward doing. yet others swear that they get perfect points and seams ect, i seem to do better without , lol.

I have made several paper piece projects. It is the only way that I would make some of the more intricate patterns. If you have not done pp in the past, I would suggest that you download a free pattern on the net and give it a try to see if it is for you. I do have a Carol Doak book and I feel that the patterns are a bit more advanced. Some patterns have many pieces. JMHO
