I've done a search at the big 3, but come up empty. My new SIL (a beginning sewer) wants to make some nursing tops. The baby is almost 2 months already. Does anyone here know of nursing patterns from the big 3 as I would like to direct her to some .99 patterns. My brother is out of work. Any other suggestions would be welcome to. I could buy one for her if more expensive.
Thanks and Happy Easter!

I don't know of any 99cent ones, but I do see these recommended a lot.

Honestly, though, as the mom of a still nursing 17 month old, my favorite is just a stretchy tee. I found the real nursing shirts to be mostly unattractive or more cumbersome than they are worth.

MY baby's 21 years old, so it's been a while :re: ... but I did spend 7 years breastfeeding (2 children - each nursed until 3 1/2 years old) back in the day.

I agree with Vanessa. I just wore tees or anything I could lift from the top. Much easier than trying to discreetly open a porthole. The baby hides your bare midriff anyway.

Thanks for the quick replies! My kids are 20+ now too and I nursed them, but I don't even remember hearing tell of nursing tops/dresses. I suppose they existed. I just covered up with a baby sheet/blanket. I can see how the nursing tops would help to make you more discreet, although I'm sure I would still use the blanket too. I looked at some rtw tops and think with the link Vanessa gave me that I can figure out how to modify a regular pattern for her enough. Truly, I don't know how she'll have time to learn to sew with a baby and toddler. I don't remember having time to get my housekeeping done and enough rest!
Thanks again,
Melanie

I nursed both of my girls and I too found that items that were made special for nursing Moms to be more trouble then they were worth. Well except for the nursing bras..but that is totally different!

I do have an idea that I recently saw that might help her out a little.

You take a baby blanket and tack one end of a ribbon the one corner and the other end of the ribbon to the other corner on the same side. Then when you are nursing you put that over your head, with the ribbon around your neck and the blanket will cover the baby while nursing...
hope that is easy to understand......I think I'm confused! :monkey:

Elizabeth Lee patterns are "sew" easy, and she teachers you a lot in her patterns. They are easy to read, and comfortable to wear. Most of her patterns can be whipped up fairly quickly even if you are not very experienced. I learned a lot from sewing my nursing clothes that I am now putting to use in other things I sew.
