If my main purpose in buying an embroidery machine is to make borders on hems, do I only need a 4x4 machine? Is it hard to find borders for these types of machines? Also, Ive read where you can combine designs with a certain device. Does that device work on all embroidary machines? Which machine is a good starter for creating, combining designs for border embroidery only? Thanks! Kelly |

They have machines that do contiuous border designs but they are on the higher end of the machines. My Singer XL6000 came with a continuous border hoop which is wonderful for doing borders around hems and such. I think the viking machines has a machine that does this also. With my machine you sew out the design then you pull the fabric down to the next area to sew on the fabric and line up a little "V" it makes when it finishes the last design and it connects the first design with the second and so on. My machine came with a disk with around 15 border designs. Check them out at www.allbrands.com They have the XL 5000 cheaper than the 6000 but they are not upgradeable like the 6000. |

if you check mad mumbler designs ( I'll find the link and post it for you) lesli has a tutorial which makes it super easy to do a continuous border, even if you don't have a continuous hoop and regardless of your stitch field... She's going to be teaching her methods at the IEC (Indiana Embroidery Conference) this year... MO here's the link to lesli's site http://www.madmumbler.com/ also... here is a link for the IEC...great conference, lots of fun and learning, and very reasonably priced... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IndianaEmbroideryConference/?yguid=159196617 life is too short, not to explore
