Hi Again,

My pattern piece states to put it on the fold, however on the cutting layout it does not show the pieces on a fold. It show then near the selvage. Also the pattern piece says (4 pieces in all (2) #10's and (2) #11's) use one on the fabric and the other on the interfacing, yet the cutting layout shows both pieces on the selvage - one displaying cut on the right side and the other on the wrong side. Is it possible because there is not enough room to cut on the fold they have laid it out this way for me to have to make an extra stitch.

thank you

Usually a piece is only laid up against the fold if you are avoiding a seam. For example, the pattern piece for the back of a shirt shows only half the shirt, but you place the middle of the "shirt" against the fold, then when you cut it out, and open it up, you have the back of the shirt with no seam.

Is this what you meant?

Most other pieces are cut out of folded fabric so you have two of them. You cut out one sleeve, but you're cutting through two thicknesses so you end up with two sleeves.

When the pattern instructs you to use a single thickness, it's usually because you only need one of something. You might only need one pocket, for example.

But sometimes a piece is so big that you can't fit it on folded fabric, and sometimes you use the least fabric if you cut out two big pieces one at a time.

Be sure if your pattern indicates you should cut two on folded fabric and you are cutting on one layer that you cut one with the printed side up and the other with the printed side down so you get mirror images -- like the sides of your body.
