What is everyone working on now? I'm taking a smocking class this Saturday and I'm so excited. Trinatte's mom wants me to make her a christning gown. Smocking on it will be lovely. The lady who is teaching the class on smocking also teaches making hankerchief dresses with the smocking.

I just finished a summer bath robe and a pull over blouse. Have fabric and patterns ready to make some shorts and more blouses. Guess I am hoping for summer this year.

I seem to be as busy now as just before Christmas. I just finished my granddaughter's sleeping bag insert - fleece, with arms and a hood! She's 13 - nuff said! Now I'm half thru a wall-hanging quilt - African animals, very cute, for my new grandson but I'm making it as a blanket so if and when they change his room colour they can take it down, remove the sleeve and use it as a blanket. I also have another quilt half done - can't decide on how to finish it so it's just sitting, and I have a spring banner to make for my sister-in-law and I have a stack of material I just bought at Wal-Mart's clearance table to make the new grandson his summer wardrobe - or at least a good chunk of it. And besides that I've been painting some pieces to be sold at the Rotary auction that my neice and her husband run. I love to be busy but I've taken on a lot even for me right now!

Wow Carolyn and Violet, you two sound like you are really getting things done. I'm just slacking. I've done some mending and things like that and a blanket for a new baby, but nothing really much lately. I did make the girls a few skirts that came out cute for church which gave them a few more things in their wardrobe but that was before Easter. I also have some bibs for the new babies in my life to embroidery, and I was shown a cute way to turn onsies into little dresses by cutting them 2 inches above the leg opening and adding a skirt then sewing it back together. They come out really cute especially if you lettuce edge the sleeves on the serger. Very cute. I have the fabric but not the oneies. so off to WalMart tomorrow for that.

It sounds like you girls do alot of sewing for grandkids. I only have one and his mother doesn't like homemade things. When my daughter gets up here this summer, I will probably be busy doing her mending and making her some new clothes.

I have been cleaning my fabric collection. I have made my 4 GD's summer outfits (we will have a summer!). Have so far 3 done for each one. I am having so much fun doing this. Have the patterns cut out for another set for each GD. My youngest D decided that I could make some baby quilts for the Preemie unit at the hospital her daughter was born at. So I am doing nothing fancy just blocks, so when I feel like it I work on those. I took the class on making your own pattern dummy out of duck tape, and I have one made of youngest D. So I am trying that out for a summer slip dress. In between I am making my mom aprons. I take care of her and we use them as bibs, they look nicer and she doesn't feel like a child. I haven't bought any material, I am cleaning out my collections.

Hi,
Currently making merino wool singlets for my two boys, then need to make some tops for the eldest, some sweatshirts, some nappies (perfecting my design), a small dress for a wee lass due to arrive in August, and a pair of trousers for me. I've got to fit all this around gardening (now Autumn here), looking after 2 boys and doing hand sewing on an hourly rate for 20 hours per week! I think it'll be a while before I get to the trousers for me! Hopefully by then I won't need them and will be back in my original clothes.

You guys sound so energetic! I finally finished my flannel quilt for our bed.. It is so soft and warm...Yes, late in the season to be making it. It first started out to be a throw, then I got to thinking, with my husband being so cold natured, might as well make it to fit the bed. Getting ready to make a denim throw with flannel backing. I want the seams to unravel, so do I sew the seams 1/2 in. or 1/4 in. Any advice will be appreciated. Will be my first..

I'm working on a Christmas quilt for the master bedroom for next winter... I'm using up ends of Christmas fabrics from past projects... Its just a simple pinwheel pattern, nothing fancy,,, but since its a king size, it's a bit of a job...depending on how long this one takes me, I may do one for my son's bed also, but again, that's a king... love those big beds, but boy are they a pain to make quilts for!! :whacky:

We have had to gut the upstairs rooms, our house is an older home. Found out that the insulation was all wrong, had to put in air breathers and vapour barriers, found out that two walls had no insulation at all. It was a lot of work and it is finally all drywalled and painted. Since it is all new I decided to make all new curtains, bedskirts and coverlets. So I have been doing this most of the winter, and one room is all done. Now I have to do the other room, but that will be a few months before it is all done, cost of fabric and just the sewing. I did muslin tab curtains and a matching bedskirt. Then make a striped coverlet with flowers for the bed. Made some matching pillows. I'm not quite sure what to do with the other room yet. It has creamish-taupish walls, but since the carpet was still quite good we didn't change it. It's blue, so I am stuck on what colours to use for curtains. Been looking in magazines, but haven't found anything yet. If anyone has any suggestions, would love to hear them.

I just finished one shell top and am going to try to whip out another this weekend. Then I'm going to make a garment bag for my husband's suits. After that I'll start on new outfits for my oldest daughter and myself to wear to my youngest daughter's law school graduation weekend.

I woke up yesterday and decided to start a new quilt top for a throw. I got it all pieced. (Just a really simple log cabin variation with stars appliqued in the center.) I have half of the starts appliqued on. This is my first time trying machine applique with the actual applique stitch, and I am not sure that it looks great at the ends of the stars. But when I stand back and look at it, it's fine. I'm sure that there's a good techinique for this, so I will have to check around. I'm making it for ds's "big boy" room that he will be getting after we move this fall and he turns 2.

I'm hoping to finish the top before the machine quilting class that I am taking on Saturday so that I can use it as my practice quilt. I got every bit of fabric from my stash. Pretty cool. So far, I only bought fusible web for the appliques. I will probably buy some thread for the quilting, too.

Other than that, I have the twin size quilt for ds's room all in pieces in my sewing room. I really want to get them sewn together as they have been in this state since just before I moved here last year. Then I will have to decide to either hand or machine quilt that one. I also have a pattern for a really cute chair I want to make him. I'm working really hard on completing projects with my existing stash at home. :)

Motherinlaw: I made a bunch of those onesie dresses this year, but I cut a lot closer to the sleeves. I really think the empire waist is cute. I don't have a serger, so I started looking for tops that were already more finished looking and also used some nicer tees.

I've been working on a shirt and pair of shorts for my grandson. I still need to do the buttonholes and buttons on the shirt and put the elastic in the shorts. I've got fabric for another matching set, but I'm a bit unsure about the size. He is almost 15 months old and a big boy! I made him a toddler size two, which fit perfectly last year and my daughter says will still fit him for now, but my guess is that he will need the size three by early to mid summer. Decisions, decisions. ;)

Today I am working on a crochet hook holder for my mom; her birthday is in a couple of weeks. I got the pattern based on someone's recommendation here on the site. It looks easy so I hope it goes well.

I would also like to make myself some more summer nightgowns, and some skirts, but like many of you, sewing for myself will probably stay on the back burner for a while. LOL

My project probably really does not belong here. I have just started teaching myself to sew. Like the blind leading the blind. I found old pillow cases that my grandmother had made 60ish years ago and am turning them into dresses for my niece. The first one I just cut off the top, made arm holes and a casing at the top and ran ribbon through it to tie on shoulders. The one I finished yesterday I was much braver. I bought a little girls bishop(?) style pattern and cut the top of the pillow case to that pattern. I like the style of that one much better but I put a contrasting color of bias tape on the arm holes because I thought it would look really cute. Not a good idea. But the dress is really sweet. I have one more to go and will probably go with the first style b/c there is a damaged spot on the case I need to work around. So nothing fancy - but I am so proud!!
My next project will be a slip on skirt that has seven layers that you gather and attach to each other going down. It will be my first garment from scratch. Wish me luck!!
You are all real inspirations!!!

Your projects sound great. Keep up the good work. :)

I finished ds' quilt top that I was working on, and I would love to work on the twin quilt, but I probably should clean up the house today. I love reading about what everyone's working on.

Well, I'm finishing up an attic window wall hanging with pictures of my daughters wedding in the windows for their anniversary this month. I just need to put the binding on and decide if I'm going to use a sleeve for hanging it or make tabs.

Also, working on three different BOMS. I started making scrappy diamond blocks for my Scrappy Chaos Quilt. This weekend I will be working on our denim/flannel rag quilt for our camper. It is getting close to mushroom hunting season and we plan on spending weekends in the woods looking for morels. So I need to get that finished as the nights and mornings are pretty cool here in the spring.

I'm also working on knitting some small projects and needle felting. I'm trying to come up with something that would be easy to teach a class.

Projects I should be working on this weekend. Washing windows, washing walls, cleaning up the yard. (Yuck, not as much fun)!
Happy sewing/quilting/crafting
Liz

Well, I finished 2 out of 3 Easter dresses-lol!
I also made Easter capri pants for 2 youngest dd's with bunnies appliqued on the legs.
I am currently working on an applique quilt top. It is a Lion laying on rocks with a nice big tree in the background. I am really excited about it. I found a site online with wonderful line drawings of wild animals taken straight from photographs. I took it to Staples and had it enlarged 280% and that is what I am using as for templates. It will be my first "art" quilt.
My dh when describing it to a friend last night said---my wife is working on some kind of a wierd quilt-lol!
Need to work on some summer weight ponchos for my dds & me to wear with church dresses, too.
So many projects..... so little time.
I'm sure I will get more done when my 3 little ones :monkey: head back to school on Monday. Difficult to be too productive on Easter break.

1. quilt for my friend's baby - due in a week. retro / 40's fabric, blue and orange motifs with large applique chicks. this is a UFO i haven't sewn on for 8 months at least - a quilt i started for my son (who was born on my girlfriend's due date 1 year ago).

2. reversible lamb hooded bunting for a friends' 2-yo (she saw the one in my sig. and had to have one fo her girl). this is in one of those pre-pieced fabrics, which has been a pain in the arse to work with!

3. scrunchies and small purse to match #2, for the 4-yo sister to Mary the little lamb.

Hey Shirley C, Glad to see another Louisianaian among us. I have one machine in the shop It's been in there since Dec 30th and they can't figure out what's wrong with it. I'm not about to let the other one go until I get that one back. My new one is ready for it's first check up but I'd have serious withdrawls if I sent that one in also. What area are you from? I'm from the New Orleans area.

I just finish a zipper bag, like a makeup bag of sorts for my hand sewing things. I'm going to a class tomorrow for smocking and I'll need to take a few things but not a lot so I made that to take my things in. I used an old pair of cut up jeans I made the Grandkids purses with, the left over fabric was just enough to make a small bag. Now I'm all set for class tomorrow.

I've just finished an 10-gore skirt (just above the knees) I drafted for my mother in a nice beige colored crepe, lined with a silk lining I found for a really cheap price in a hidden shop in Madrid!! I've also drafted another skirt for myself, straight and tapered to just above the knees, using a gabardine-type fabric with a little stretch (not sure what the name is in english) also with the same kind of lining, finished sewing it today; it's very elegant and figure hugging, never had one of these for myself, always used to borrow my mum's :bluewink: , so I'm really excited about putting it on this afternoon to go out. Now I must sort my fabrics out and I think I will be doing a 60's kind of circle knee-length skirt with black and white polka dot fabric and a white tulle underskirt which can be worn for a more special occassion, again for my mum!

Vanessa's sewin ~ Are you by any chance making a Star Log Cabin quilt... From the way you are describing the quilt, that is what it sounded like. Where did you find the pattern for this... My daughter wants one, and I have been looking... By the way, I am looking forward to seeing a picture of it when you are finished...

Selene - you seem very comfortable with skirts. I really want to sew myself one but don't know where to start. I am an intermediate seamstress - have made a few quilts and lots of kids' clothes - and can probably tackle most anything. I just don't know what kind of pattern and fabric will be comfortable and flattering. Any chance you'd like to give some advice to a gal longing to sew herself a skirt?

You and me both Esrun. I'm working on a pair of shorts and I have them all done except for the waist and hem and found out the measurements on the back of the envelope lies. I made them according to the measurements and they swallow me. I made a large and could have probably made a small. Good thing I found a bargin at Walmarts dollar table for the fabric. Back to Walmart to get another pattern. I love the shorts.

Last night during my "goat labor watch", (in the barn) I traced Burda WOF E834 pattern 712, a short sleeve shirred top. I layed a clean piece of plywood across my lap. Worked out pretty good. Had 2 babies last night, both of I had to assist. and many more to come! Before going to bed I shopped my stash and picked out a blue and beige rayon paisley print, so I'm ready to cut! Oh, and I'm working on a slinky prom dress. I can't stick with just one project at a time.

Yesterday, I finished my March BOM Advent- and made one for April.. I don't have any fabric that goes for 'scenic' , so I used a flower block, and I will probably make another after I go shopping..Maybe I will luck out and find an appropriate fat quarter at Michaels in the budget bin..I'm trying so hard to watch my pennies.. I want a serger that does a coverstitch so much.. I also made a scrub top for my grand-niece's 2nd birthday.. (her mother is a nurse, so I bought a play stethescope to go with it.).I found a remnant marked way down of that regular scrub fabric with the cute print. It was just enough to get that top for her..I worked on her panel dress I'm making for her also.. Has Frog-Prince motif.. Its really cute.. Was a good day for sewing..

Was trying to do swap with timmel fabrics but didn't have time to complete it, tax time for my business and back to work this week from maternity leave sigh...
But I did get finished 2 blouses (Pam's blouse by silhouette patterns and S Betzina wrap top) a knit 3/4 sleeve top (SB again) my tweed coat (3/4 length Burda very retro) and matching wrap skirt and a pair of grey dress pants so I had a few things for work that fit and interact, I was pleased with myself for getting that much done!! :bg:

WOW!!!!!!! Spring has us all sewing up a storm, since that is the storm season after all.

I just finished a onesie for the granddaugter that was born in Feb. If you cut them two inches above the bottom side, cutting it almost in half another words. Then adding a ruffle where you cut it off and then attaching the bottom back on it makes a cute dress for the baby. I also appliqued a flower on the front and ran a deco stitch around the sleeves and neckline and it came out precious. I also ran a deco stitch around the top of where I attached the ruffle so the seam would lay flat. It came out precious.

Now to make the other Granddaughter one. Can't do one without the other.

I figured I needed to take a break from the grandkids clothes and start working on the Jazzy Jazz Jacket I am going to make. This will take a couple of weeks to put all together, so I am doing it a little at a time. Also working on a reversible jacket, that you make into a tote. Both of these are a little time consuming so I work on them a little at a time.

I"m still working on my Christmas quilt... although I have to say.. I'm beginning to get very tired of red and green!!! the problem with having a king sized bed is that you have to make a king sized quilt!! I think I have about 2/3 of the number of blocks I need... haven't counted lately... I just keep making blocks!! then its on to sashing and keystones... I think I'll embroider the keystones... that ought to make it interesting!!

I finished a pair of linen cargo pants - cool huh? My protoge has finished her purple-and-pink-satin-bias-cut-halter-neck-prom-dress (what a thing for a first garment!) and I've done my April BOM. This leaves me with 1/2 a sock to go (about to turn the heel) on my norwegian sock pattern and some mens hiking socks in the pipeline. I still have to start my stomacher - I can't stomach it! I might do some more sleeves for the renaissence dress as well but I think I'm running out of gold brocade now. It would be nice to do some sleeves with slashing if I can.

Hey Mother In Law - I just now read where you asked me where I live. I got behind on reading the posts. This was the last week before spring break, and it was crazy at school.
I live in a small town - Logansport - right on the Texas line and the Sabine River - about 45 mi. south of Shreveport.
We have some good friends in Destrehan. I met a lady on another board that lives in Destrehan, around the block from my friends. It's a small world.
I got my machines back and I've got a lot of catch up to do.

My mil visited this past week, and she wanted to learn how to handquilt. So in the past week, I pieced a small top for each one of us. It was really fun. I have never worked with 1 inch blocks before. I started her on quilting hers, and I am hoping to baste mine tonight and get started on it. I also have 90% of a quilt that I am making for her for Mother's Day pieced. Now I need to sew on the border, add the appliques, and get that baby done. She isn't planning on having it for Mother's Day as I waited for her to be here so she could help me pick out the fabrics, but I would love to suprise her with it. She also saw a fabric bowl when she was here that she thought was cool so I might give that a go with some of the leftovers.
