Why is it that a cat wants to sit in your lap right after it's just come from the LITTER BOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PEE-U Why do they think that YOU have to get up at 5AM to feed them????? Where did they get the idea that it's THEIR bed and that you are invading on THEIR space when you try to roll over in the middle of the night, only to be rudely awakened by a blood curdling EOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW in your ears and claws in your back!!!!!!! When did my bath time become THEIR entertainment hour? Do I really need a cat sitting on the side of my tub watching me soak? Or better yet "fishing" a soaked cat out of my bath that "it" decided it wanted to share with me!!!!! Where is it written that I have to play "Jump the Kitty" while walking up or down my stairs? All four of mine are indoor cats, so I have not had the pleasure of them wanting to "share" their latest capture of the day with me. Guess with all " Their" flaws I still love 'em to pieces. |

Sewhappie I thought for a minute you had met my little dog "Sophie" that thinks she's the owner of the our kingsize bed and that DH and I maintain a house and an SUV and a truck for her convenience and pleasure. Patsy Patsy

LOL Sewhappie - ain't it the truth!!!!!!!!!!! We just picked up a laser light at the dollar store for the kitty, best dollar I ever spent. It's been a long time since she's leaped halfway up the wall.....she's been getting far too fat. She's an indoor cat too, we live in the city and I'd never allow her outside. "onward through the fog"

Sewhappie, I have 2 indoor cats but we live in the country with farm land all around us so my babies have the opportunities to bring me their presents every so often. One time while DH was out of town I went to bed late and something bounced (I have a waterbed) when I got into bed. I yelped and jumped back out. It was only a toy! Next night, DH still out of town, I get in bed and something bounced. Since it was a toy the night before I just stayed in bed. I snuggled down and pulled the covers up ready to close my eyes, yelped and jumped out throwing the covers everywhere. It was a real mouse! Just last week when I got up to make a midnight run I noticed a shadow on the floor when I was returning to bed. Luckily I was awake enough to think to turn the light on, yup, another gift. I would sure miss my babies if they weren't around even though I complain about them when I'm trying to sew and have to move a body so I can do most anything, and complain about my "gifts". I always make sure I thank them and give them lots of love for my "gifts" though.

I'm sorry to say that we had to put down our Siamese, Barkley, this past week. He was not doing good health wise and had a fall and got hurt. I got him to the vet and he just looked at me the whole time as if he was saying it was okay, he was ready to go. Needless to say I have been a mess all week and my other three felines are looking hi and low for him now that he's gone. They never gave him the time of day when he was alive, guess that's women for ya. They look at me with puzzled looks and are talking more than they ever have before. I nicknamed him "Bow-Bow" and his favorite thing to do was sit on my DH's back when DH was sleeping and yell at us a 6AM wanting to be fed. My favorite thing was how he would sit on the side of the couch and curl his body and paws over the arm of the couch facing whoever he was interested in at the time and just stare at them. He was a "Daddy's Boy" for sure, he would wait for DH to come home from work and then he would spend the rest of the night on his lap and follow him everywhere. I just hope they lave lots of catnip in Kittie Heaven. He is sorely missed. |

I am very sorry for your loss ... Barkley will definitely be missed. I do share the same feelings however they are dogs for me (cats for you) - nonetheless, the feelings are the same. May you treasure great memories of Barkley and know he's in a fun place - rainbow bridge definitely came for him. - Brenda -

So sorry for your loss, Sewhappie. I just had to say goodby to my best friend of 12 years recently too. Who would have thought that this skinny black thing with the torn ear and the worlds weirdest purr would leave such a big hole in my household. The other cats (there are three) deferred to him as the old man and Boss of the house and are just know trying to figure out their new pecking order. Even my DH, who is a dog man at heart, finds himself tearing up once in a while when he thinks of ol' Skookum. He is sorely missed.

I worked part time in a pet store and to make a long story short, they had a little 4 month old Shih Tzu they were going to put down just because he had a murmur and could not get papers. I ask the manger what they were goiing to do and he said he would be put down the next day. Well I carried that dog with me all night, held him wlaked him and tlaked to him. Then at quitting time, you guessed, I brought him home. I did not want a pet and it had been 14 years since I had one but I named him Buster and he has been with us 4 years. He is the most gentle, loving add the smartest dog I ever had. Oh, he has been to three Vets now and they can not find the murmur and he has been in perfect health, He has also brought a lot of love to our home. |

OK, why do they think they own the place????? Easy answer: 'cause they do, and there isn't much we can do about it ... not that I would want to. Sewhappie, I'm a bit late to offer my condolences but I hope you can now smile at the memories. You get the a wake-up call at 5a.m. ... you lucky devil. I'm lucky if I go past 4:15. Lucky for me I can go right back to sleep. All they want is 1 stroke under their chin and that's it. Spoiled brats. They're sooooo cute. |

Our rat terrier, Lulu, has recently learned a new phrase. She rode with hubby to the store just down the road one day and he let her go inside with him. He bought her a Slim Jim meat stick. (Probably not good for her ) Now when he says, "Who wants to go to the store and get a meat stick?" She jumps in his truck. |

I don't have any pets at home any more and I'd love to have something, but I do have a question for you cat people. My daughter moved into an older house with carpets(her's husbands grandfathers house). She has 2 cats that had fleas previously and used 'Advantage?' to get rid of them and they have been flea clear for quite a while. Now they have something that she thought was fleas but she says they don't seem to jump and are little black bugs, she tried the 'Advantage' twice and it hasn't done anything which it should have. Does any one have any ideas?? One of the cats is starting to lose patches of hair. Being that she is almost 38 wks pregnant, getting to the vet right now is not on her list of priorities, but she also doesn't want to bring a baby into this. She has shampooed some of the carpets, like the babys room and the hall way. The cats seem to stay in the front room and don't like being in the back of the house where the bedrooms are. OH, and the people that moved out of the house did have a cat (the lady is her husbands aunt). I'd appreciate any ideas or places to look for help at all. Thanks everyone.

oh my, the other dreaded side of having pets. After having been flea free all of my pet owning life I moved to a home that was unknown to me to be flea infested. I spent hundreds of dollars on treatments, carpet shampooing, and flea bombs. Nothing helped. Finally out of desperation I called a pest control company (Orkin) they came in and ONE! yes one treatment later the house was pest free. I did take the pets to the vet the morning of the pest control appointment for a flea dip so they were not able to re-infest the house. The cost of the pest control and the vet appointment was a fourth of what I had spent trying to do it on my own. Wish I had done it right away and I know should this ever happen again I will not waste my time on other methods. This may be the easiest and best route for your daughter to try. Grandma Sue
------------ At the end I am not showing up at my grave all pretty and well preserved...I am coming in sliding, yelling "What a ride!" |

Laura, my first thaught was also the carpets. If there was another animal in the house, that might very well be the cause of your problem. I'm a bit worried about your pregnant cat losing its hair. Call the vet and see if he/she can help you over the phone but I would think he/she will want to her. Im worried it's something that could affect the kitties. |

my mom and dad use the flea control that is a pill, once a month and it steralizes them so that they don't reproduce, which is the key in getting rid of them once they are there, the other methods, usaully get rid of them temporarily. they lice in flea counrty and have had NONE. thankfully we live in a cold enough climate they don't live through our winters |

Hey Carman -- How do you get the pills in the flea's mouths? If you have trouble with that, maybe a flea bomb would do the trick. When we had a larger dog we had to do it toward the end of every summer or else we would have fleas well into the winter. You might want to get rid of the carpets if that doesn't work. Dorothy |

When I moved to the middle of the country I had no flea problems for a year, then little black critters kept turning up in the house which I knew for sure werent cat fleas. It turned out to be wild rabbit fleas! They cant live on the cats but they turn up in the house (I spent that summer using cat flea remedies that just didnt shift them). They died off over the cold winter months and I havent seen them since. My cat also looses his fur every spring, growing back in the winter, this spring we took him to the vet. The vet told us that some cats are affected by spring hormones (yep its true) called 'hormonal alopecia'. They get agitated by the call of the wild animals getting all ready for spring breeding and out plops their hair. He had started off saying it was a flea allergy, but a good look finally convinced him there was no fleas anywhere to be seen on my babies body! Snowy |
