My bf brought a pair of dress pants for a wedding tomorrow...he wanted me to cuff them which in itself is no problem but when he tired them on they looked like clown pants because they were so large....i cant believe the sales lady told him they looked nice and fit....i could tell the min he put them on that they were too big...way too big...they are a size 58 and his pants that fit him perfectly are a size 50....i should have went with him so this is my question...i have never done alterations to this magnatudue on such short notice...they have to be ready by 7am tomorrow....can this be done...what is the best way to do it...do i have to take the waist band off...how do i cut down the pants on the side seams without messing up or taking out the pockets..... Or should i just bite the bullet and buy another pair then work on these when i have more time......i am not sure if he has the reciept or not if he does then it is just an exchange issue but if not we have to buy new pants to match the suit jacket. Jada Please help |

If they are too big in the waist, yes you will have to take the waistband off. Most men's pants have a centre back seam that can be altered to a degree. If it is just the leg, narrow them very gradually.

If you can alter the back enough you may not have to take off the waistband. It depends on what needs to be done. Most of those pants have a seam that is folded to the center and just tacked down in the corners. On those pants you can just open up the folded seam and take them up at the center seam...but 8 inches? I don't know. I would be amazed that the crotch isn't at his knees. Wow! I'd be calling and yelling at someone!
