Hey

My friend and I are making a purse and it told us to sew the handles and then baste the edges. We have no idea what this means...any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Basting refers to a large stitch done by machine or hand, to anchor pieces together. Usually, basting stitches are removed later. It is often used when pins would be inconvenient or wouldn't hold the pieces sturdily enough. New sewers usually think basting is a waste of time - but - it usually is necessary when asked for.

I can't really tell what your application is here from your description. My guess is you are basting the ends of the handles to the body of the purse, then will topstitch or sew liner to the outside of purse?
