Joanne,

Here is a pic of my wall hanging of my daughter's wedding. I'm not done with it yet, as I have to sew a pocket on for the hanger and sew the binding on.

Liz, you are so prolific - that is a great idea. I have difficulty getting in to your photos though - it keeps telling me page loading iin 0.02 secs and we sit there for ages....
I've not really seen attic windows before as a quilt and I'm quite sold on the idea as an alternative to sashing.

In answer to the questions.

Magot, Hmmm...This is a new site that I'm testing. I wonder if anyone else here is having this problem? Maybe because it is crossing an ocean, it takes longer? :bluewink: Or maybe my pictures are too large. I have a new digital camera and sometimes, I forget how big the pictures can be electronically.

Okalhomanana, your attic window is really nice. I love birds. Your also very creative. I really like your purple bathroom. My favorite color.

Bren, No it really isn't hard to print the pictures on fabric. You can buy fabric ready to print on, or you can make your own. I think in the craft section, we had a discussion about printing on fabric.

Joanne & Mary, thanks for all of your support and encouragement. If it wasn't for this website, I might have never attempted to try other "quilty" projects.

Hogmamii, The colors I picked were to match the Red Canyon of Nevada, This is where they were married. It was an outdoor wedding and the day of the wedding they had wind gusts up to 75 mph! In one of the pictures, you can see her veil standing straight out behind her. I wanted something to remind them of the desert canyon. I actually did the blocks with fat quarters that I found on clearance from Joann Fabrics.

I hope to finish it this weekend, since their anniversary is April 17th.

When we got married, cameras were just being invented. LOL, not quite that long ago but we only have 2-3 pictures. In one of them hubby looks like he is scared to death! He was.

Liz, what a beautiful quilt! And yours too Oklahomanana! Thanks so much to both of you for posting these pics. I've never seen this quilt before and now it makes so much more sense! Last night I was thinking about printing out photos of the kids, etc to use in the ones for the advent quilt and now I see that I can do that! What a great gift idea just to do an entire quilt that way!

I'm inspired-now I have to go buy some fabric and start finding pictures!

Again thanks everyone for the compliments. I'm glad that I can inspire people too. Everyone will have to post their pics of their picture quilts when they get them done. :coffee: (I'm still suffering from getting up an hour earlier for work, and still going too bed at what my body clock says is my bedtime.) I don't like this time change in the spring.

super job LIz~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I love those colors as well~ Never thought to do one like this. you are one creative woman for sure~ I just learned today how to do one. The top is complete. Now on to the backing and binding.
if you will go To: http://community.webshots.com/user/oklahomanana (http://) and then go to My first attempt at Attic windows you can see the one I did today! I need to make another one with the size Joanne wants us to do our Advent block in For April. I am going to use different fabric though. Can't wait to see everyone's window~~~~~~~~~~~~

I just love your bathroom. Did you paint your stool and tub purple. That is so awsome and I loved the table runner as well. I wish I was that creative as all of you. Good Luck and Best Wishes on Quilting ahead.

Magot........oh you miss them when they move out but you have to be really careful or they move back in!! We turned son's bedroom into a office and three months later, back he came. And you know all that stuff I moved INTO his closet didn't fit back where I got it either!

He did move out again later, and DH told him that was that, everyone got a second chance but that was it. (so he moved in with his married sister who charged him rent!) Glad to say he seems settled now. :bang:

thanks for the compliments on my bathroom! No the tub, sink and toilet are are purple by the owners ( we just rent) can't afford a home yet, hopefully someday though we will! I feel inlove with my bathroom and purple is one of my favorite colors so I was thrilled to get to decorate it. I had one sore eye though~ It was the green toilet lid cover! Could not find a purple seat anywhere! Then Mary W had a contest on another place a few months back to decorate your toilet seat, and that inspired me to cover the green up! Then rest is history. I would of not covered it if Mary W had not inspired me to do it! I didn;t think I could do it but was happy with the results.

Linda,

Yes, I would love to share. I have to go over to my daughter's house and get the final finished size of the quilt. I meant to do it before I gave it too them, but forgot. As far as the blocks and pics, I made notes, so I will find them in my pile of paper and post them here. :bluewink:

Linda & Doreen,

(and anyone else who wants the directions).

First I printed pictures from the computer onto fabric. I printed the sizes of 4 x 6" or 5 x 7". I then cut for the block the size of 3.5" square. So I cropped the picture to only show what you would see in the block. I also cut 1, 2" x 5 3/4" dark and 1, 2" x 5 3/4" medium fabric. For the sashings I cut 2, 1 1/4" x 5 3/4".

This attic window block, you also sew the sashing on. So the finished size of the block is 5 inches. When you sew all of the blocks together, then you just have to sew two long sashings on the top and one side. You cut them the same width (1 1/4") and the length of the total blocks, plus 1/4" seam allowance. For my border, I wanted a 3" finished border. So I cut my strips for the border 3 1/2" x 28". My finished size that I was aiming for was 24" x 24". I didn't do the final measurements though. Here are the complete instructions that I followed for making this block. I seen this show on "Simply Quilts" . I used the first method, Susan Cleveland's.
