Hello Everyone,

I have made several "messenger bag" style purses before. Infact I began sewing them by hand before I even owned a machine. I am very used to their contruction but I am really confused on the subject of lining. I contructed the purse and I'm using the material that feels like very light weight canvas and more soft. I tried to put a silkish scarf as the lining and boy was that a bad idea! I guess we have to learn from our mistakes. I learned not to used a regular stitch on silk. :whacky:

I was wondering what type of fabric would be ideal for a lining in a purse contructed with a light canvas

Thanks

what are you going to put in it? I would pick a thin very tightly woven cotton or poly cotton blend, well prewashed and dried. I personally prefer lighter coloured linings for purses or they turn into the pit of doom and you can never find anything (but those leaky pen blotches show up nicely!)

They won't wear out as quickly as the silkier fabrics. Normally you match the fabric contents on clothing, I'd probably do the same with the bags. Besides, just about any color or print is available in the cotton and cotton poly fabrics. Have fun with it.

Hi,
Interested in what pattern you are using. I love the kind of bag that you can wear accross your shoulder and chest, and keep both hands free. Great for shopping trips or the farmers market(if spring hurries up and comes)
