Last night I hooped a design (a funny chillipepper on a lounge chair) on a sweatshirt for one of my nieces. I was so pround of myself and the design was stitching out and it was to cute and about 3/4ths of the way through the design, it suddenly dawned on me that the design was upside down on the front of the shirt! Has anyone else done this stupid stunt with an embroidery deisgn or am I the only one?? Patsy Patsy

That's the first time I've done a design upside down but I'm sure it won't be the last. Patsy Patsy

Well, ya know when the wearer looks down at the design, it will be ok.

Oh yes, I've done some real dumb things too. I was doing a rush job late at night, was tired as well. Was doing the last set of embroidery on an expensive towel set. You guessed it, did the design upside down on the large bath towel no less. You don't take those stitches out. Next morning I was looking all over town for the same color & brand of towel. I won't sew or embroidery if I'm real tired anymore. Just know I'll make a big boo-boo. Oh, & that hasn't been my only mistake late at night & in a hurry. |

When I was making my husband's t shirt quilt. I was doing a block with his Harley embroideried on it. I had to split the design so I could make it bigger. Well, I got the first half on right and when I went to do the second half, I lined it up, and forgot to rotate it. I had the first half with the wheel one way and the second half with the wheel going the other way. It looked like it was in a bad accident. I now have it on the wall in front of my machine as a reminder.

Oh right Mary! The wearer of the sweatshirt would have seen the bottom of a beach towel and lounge chair with a chillipepper laying upside down (face toward her feet) on the lounge chair. Patsy Patsy

Patsy I think we've all done this kind of stuff. As I do things now I try and slow down as I get close to the end of projects for this reason. I did a baby dress the other day and it was where you take a onesie and cut it in half two inches above the side leg holes then you add a ruffle all around it and put the bottom back on. Well before I had it all sewn back together I embroideried a cute design on the front of the onesie and then put some deco stitches around the neck and arms and that went well and it looked cute I even put a row of stitches around the hem on the skirt part when my DIL came in saw it and thougth it would be cute to put Spoiled on the butt part of the pants. It scared me to death the whole time I was hooping it. If I would have messed this up it would have been ruined after all the work and care that went into it. But I took my time and it came out really cute. But the closer I get to the end of a project and the longer it takes to do, the more careful I get. I try not to do anything in a rush anymore if I can help it for that reason. I messed up a sweatshirt this Christmas and put a applique of deco shapes over it and some deco stitches and it came out cute. Cover those mistakes you can cover. This worked on my Sister sweat too. I covered it up with a square with an embroidered precious moments design and put some bows around the corners and it came out precious. |

I so want to say I have never miss-hooped a project, but alas, I cannot lie. Of course I have done some of them wrong ... it's a learning curve. I was just saying to my sewing group that pretty soon I want to stop 'learning' -- I just want to DO (and do it right). Like everyone said, the more tired we are, the more the goofs come. Not only have I miss-hooped, but I have also stitched part of the design with the wrong color thread because I didn't pay attention to which thread change I was on. More of that learning curve .... ugh! I guess I love this thread because it's always nice to know others do the same mistakes and that we are not alone. Stitch on! Happy Stitchin' from sunny Arizona

ArizonaStitcher, Hi ..I am in Az also. Well, I haven't had an upside down stitch out yet but I did one sideways. I was doing pretty lavender girly tee shirt with my DGD's name in the middle of a heart outline. I had been playing with my machine a few days before checking out all the different angles you could use in changing designs and I forgot to set the machine back to the upright position. It was a hard pick out..but I did pick it out..it left a few small holes but they were covered up ok when I stitched it out the proper way. |
