Do you watch tv or listen to music or nothing but sew? What do you watch or listen too?
When my children were younger I would listen for the silence you know is not a good thing or watch their programs with them. I didn't get a whole lot of sewing done with them home and up but I did try. Love it when all 5 went to school for full days!
Now if I am sewing on moms dining room table I watch classic movies on TCM with mom. I do this to keep her company when she wants to watch (sorta). If I am in her sewing room I have my cd's going which are either Stevie Nicks, Cher or old time rock and roll. Sometimes mom will ask to listen to her cd's which are the Big Band Era and I do enjoy those too.

I like to sew in the quiet...no t.v., no stereo, nothing...I don't like the distractions..

I guess it just depends on my mood as to what I do when I sew. Sometimes I listen to the cd's or, radio, just want the peace & quiet at times or even have the TV going. :whacky:

Usually it's the TV, but there are times when I play CD's. ANYTHING to drown out the dog next door and right under my sewing room window!!!!!

I usually have the tv on for noise but don't really have a clue what's on. Sometimes I put on the cd's-listen to a lot fo what Summer listens to-the Big Bands are great sometimes. Rarely is there silence but there doesnt' ever seem to be silence in my home anyway...probably wouldn't know what to do in it! LOL

Sometimes I have the television on. I love old movies. Sometimes I even have the soap operas on. That's distracting though and I get less done.
Sometimes I listen to music. I'm pretty eclectic there, but mostly jazz of one sort or another.
I like books on tape or CD. They are good when I work out too.
Other times I just listen to the neighbors dog barking under my sewing room window.

I usually throw a DVD on, but only one that I've watched before so I don't get caught up in finding out what happens next. I like it for company, I guess (everyone's gone during the day).

Most times my TV is on....sometimes i watch and sew or should i say cut and lay out but when actully sewing the tv is only on for company....every once in a while i will listen to the radio via the internet on my computer while i am sewing....

on the weekends the tv stays mostly on TLC...Mon-Tuesday it could be any channel i really dont pay attention but wed-friday i have programs that i watch and then the tv is turned to those programs so i tend to set up my embroidery projects and any tracing or cutting for those days.....

I listen to Radio 4 (BBC) I feel wonderfully well informed after a sewing session, full of all sorts of useless information - politics, parenting, psychology, history, poetry and drama - a lovely eclectic mix. I have to admit to being a complete sucker for Womans Hour and Desert Island Discs.

Mostly the television. Sometimes the radio. But mostly I put a dvd or vhs in and can not tell you what is going on and have "watched" the same one 3 or 4 times before I get up and change it. But here lately, I have been putting the tape player on with some good stories on tape. That way I hear a story and can answer back and everything, laugh, you name it. I have a whole box of them. You can even check them out at the library. Ours have a pretty good selection which was a surprise because their sewing section is for the birds... very small one that is.

Nothing ... anything distracts me ... if I watch tv or use VCR/Tivo - I can't sew ... I guess being deaf I only can use my eyes for one thing ... can't watch both things at the same time!

I listen to the radio or CD's. Mostly soft rock or classic rock & roll. (Depending on my mood). When I watch TV or Movies, I usually am knitting.

Our neighbor's dog next door barks! I can hear him in my sewing room too!
Happy sewing/quilting/crafting
Liz

I love to listen to Garrison Keillor CDs (Lake Wobegon stories). If I'm angry about something, I find it helps my mind to think about something else as I sew. I also listen to Jan Karon's books on tape.

Sometimes I get to listen to my DH if he's rehearsing for a solo or learning new music and sometimes I have my TV on (but have no idea what's on most of the time); sometimes nothing and sometimes I get to listen to my own little girl barking outside my sewing room window when she's in the back yard.

It all just depends on what I'm doing - cutting, old movies. Sewing machine, music, usually Celtic to get a rythm going. Hand embroidery or hand quilting, a book on tape is a MUST. I do like some company in the sewing room, but company I can control, lol - where I can turn it off when I want!

Sewhappie-
I like the dog under my window. Poor old guy won't be there much longer. He's an old, old hound of some sort -- boy can he howl.
My little Jack Russell hears him and figures he is calling her. She goes out and at the end of their leashes they are just nose to nose. That's if poor old Jake can walk to the end of his leash that day.
One day I was out playing ball with my Lucy and I said "Get the ball." and that poor old thing comes limping down his back steps with a ball in his mouth. He still feels young in his heart but his body can't keep up.
Some days I know just how he feels.
The neighbors on the other side have a Jack Russell too and he barks a lot. That doesn't much bother me either. My Lucy isn't much of a barker so she doesn't bother anyone.
Both sides have small children -- one does day care and has a herd over there. It is so nice to have young people around. Before these people moved in a few years ago, we were the last young family to move on the block and it's been a while since we were a young family since my youngest is 25.

Lately I've been sewing to country music like Alabama, Mary Chapin Carpenter or the 70's like Eagles. Something that reminds me of of being
home with mom while I was sewing and she was cooking dinner. Back
how it used to be. Sometimes I like to cook something slowly like she did
like chicken soup from scratch or taco's because the smell brings back
'those' memories. She's a long ways away but when I was in my teens, the news would be on or we'd play music while she cooked and I sewed. If she sewed the peace would be broken because she has a nasty mouth when she sews:)

I miss my mom.

I usually listen to the radio (70's and 80's stuff) while I sew, or listen to a CD. Been having fun lately...one of my GF's comes on most Friday afternoons and we have a 'sewing afternoon' so we chat about home, kids, etc. Sometimes we try to learn a new task....learning to make a rolled seam is on our list. We've also been making items for a craft show we're going to do in the fall.

I listen to CD's. Usually Barbra Streisand. I also have relaxation ones. The sounds of rain, birds, waterfalls, soothing tones.

Mary, that really sounds nice but I'd fall asleep at the machine. It's bad enough when it's raining outside for me to stay alert. Just makes me so relaxed & sleepy. I have to have some noise going. That is unless I really have to concentrate. Then, I want it quite. The TV is on only when I'm doing machine embroidery.Rest of the time it's CD'S, radio, cassetts,or a grandchild over to talk to. I guess I do better with noise. LOL. As the ole saying goes " whatever floats your boat ".

Usually the idea for me to sew is to be alone, to get away from the world for a while. So, I usually do not do anything but sew and enjoy the peace and quiet.

I make all my Christmas gifts so sometimes when it is 100+ degrees in July here in Virginia I try and get in the Christmas mood so I will play Christmas music. A few times I have had people come to my door I love to watch their reaction to the music, sometime I will expalin why I am playing it and sometimes I let the think what they may LOL

I either have Praise 106.5 on through the computer, which is in the same room as my sewing stuff, or I have nothing on at all. Sometimes I just like the peace and quiet as during the day the DH is at work and I poke around until I have to go to work at 4.

CBC radio if I'm feeling intellectual that day :whacky: and the local country and western station if not! Most of the time I'm leaning out the window to tell the kids something! They love to watch me sew and usually spread the button collection all over (I hide the ones I want to keep for projects  ) so picking buttons out the bottom of my feet as I step the ironing board happens a fair bit too

I like music so I usually have the CD's or radio on when I sew or paint. No TV in my sewing room so that's out anyway.
