A friend and I recently went to a local estate sale, and there I found an amazingly large number of men's neckties. I purchased 2 Walmart bags full at a whopping price of 4 for a $1.00. Just wondering has anyone made a crazy quilt out of men's neckties? I've seen pictures in magazines and my friend has one that her mother made. When I started unsewing them, I could not believe just how much fabric is actually in a necktie. I have 68 ties so I hope to have enough for a fairly large quilt. JoanieB |

Not a crazy quilt but part of a quilt i.e. the border. I took the ties apart, ironed and interfaced them. Once that is done, you can do what you want. |

When my folks could still travel they would winter in Texas. Mom belong to the sewing group and one winter everyone brought down their DH old ties. The made quilts and skirts out of them. My mom made a larger flower (I know it wasn't a flower but looked like one to me). If your laid the ties in a circle with the point all pointing up, overlapping them then cutting off the extra. My aunt did a crazy type of quilt with the ties. I was really surprised to see all the different ways they used these. Summer Summer

I made a crazy quilt using old neck ties. I washed them (yes, machined washed and dried them) before I cut them apart. I think I saw that on Simply Quilts to wash and dry them first. It gave alot of them a nice antique look. I foundation pieced the blocks and did the decorative stitches on my machine. I also made a Christmas tree skirt with old ties. If you piece each tie (the wider end pointed out) side by side, they'll form a circle. I saved all the small points from the ends to use for prairie points around a crazy quilt pillow, but I haven't got around to that yet. |
