I thought of an idea for a swap = how about a awareness ribbon block swap. You know the ribbon (coloured) that represents something like breast cancer, cancer, AIDS, etc.

I was thinking if people sign up ... they can request what colour the ribbon they want and we can make an applique with whatever we want to do as long as the ribbon colour is the person's choice. There are several awarenesses including (but not limited to) ...

I tried to find a good sized one on the net and didn't find one. I thought about just using one of those magnetic ribbons and use as a template. I will check again and see if I can try to find one more time ... if not, maybe I will create one and have it scanned to the computer. I am possibly seeing my friend who's good with computers this weekend so maybe I can get one started.

I cheated. I borrowed a ribbon from my coworker who's doing the 3 day walk next month. I just need to copy again on a blank paper (blank template) and then have it scanned.

Would that work?

Anyone interested?

I am so sorry about your mom ... and yes we need to get the word out.

My friend scanned the ribbon so I am waiting for her email (with the attachments).

Could you show us your finished product when you are done. I am hoping we could do a ribbon applique block so that we have a variety of blocks with same "theme" meaning colour and different "background" fabric or whatever. I really want to make a breast cancer one as well.

can't wait to see your finished quilt! I'd like to make one-think I'd have to do dark blue though for my dad-closest we can come to-he died of "some kind of abd cancer" 7 years ago. My mom didn't want to know where the primary site was but he did have a tumor wrapped around his gall bladder so maybe colon cancer is close? Also had a friend die of AIDS......have a feeling if I start these, I'll have to make many of them.

MGF sorry about your mom, I'm sure your quilt will be beautiful!

I need to wait until end of summer or fall to do these blocks though-especially with the signature block going on and a few other swaps I'm in.

Actually you could have a quilt with several different color ribbons....Use it as a special memory of your family and friends.

I will have to take a photo of this quilt that my Mother was given by one of her sisters..(both of which have passed)
I'm not sure if it really has a name but I will try to expalin it the best I can and will post a photo ASAP.

My Mother had 9 brothers and sisters..so my one Aunt took and made a copy of each of their hand prints....she did one of the handprints at my Uncles funeral...anyway, she appliqued the hand prints and stitched each of their names by or in their handprint, (can't remember right off hand) then in the center she put her parent names and dates of birth and death.
It really is a pretty piece....it is done up in blue and white.

I think it is really a nice piece...and very unique! I will take a photo the next time I'm at Dad's house to share! Might give someone an idea~

This will be the 5th Mothers Day since my Mom passed~Maybe I will spend that day working on the Ribbons quilt!

MGF - I am so sorry about your mom ...this too will be my 5th year without my mother so I know exactly how you feel. This will be kinda hard cuz now I have a daughter and we had a tradition where I would fly home for Mother's Day weekend since college. Now, I fly home for Father's Day weekend.

I would love to see a picture - that sounds like a fantastic idea.
