My DH finally made me a 18" x 14" plexiglass extension table for my Pfaff 2044 this weekend. What a difference it makes when you're working on a quilt and fighting with it to keep it level and no hanging down over the edge of the machine while you're trying to sew a straight line of stitching.

Mine came with my machine. But everytime I try freehand quilting, I mess up somehow.

Put a light under it and you have the perfect light table too.

Mine came with the machine too but I have never used it because I like my sewing surface "sunk" to the level of the table top. However, using it as a light table is brilliant ! Thanks Mary. :Canada:

Patsy,
What did he use for the legs? I'm sure my hubby or son could make me one if I found the right materials.

Bama we got the plexiglass at Home Depot (18" x 24") and it was $13.95. He bought a 3/4" dowel and rubber feet. He sanded the edges down on the plexiglass, rounded off the corners. He put screws through the top of it (counter sunk them) and also used glue to make sure the legs are solid and don't get knocked off or broken off when I'm moving it around (i.e., at a quilt retreat, class, etc.) He said the hardest part was doing the cut out to fit on the free arm of the machine as the plexiglass melts while it's being cut and then solidifies right behind the saw blade. He used his electric sander, primarily to finish the edges. I didn't get the one with the Quilter's Toolbox that Pfaff sells with their machines because it was $200 more and had a lot of stuff in it I knew I would never use. Anyway, if you need some help putting one together Bama, let me know. I'll have DH take a picture and I'll post it in my Yahoo album.

Mary: E-mail me and maybe I can walk you through getting your 2044 set up to free motion. I'm still practising on mine but it does a terrific job. It's the quilter in this house, not the machine that has a problem.

Thanks Patsy,
I would love to see a picture to get a better idea of how to make it. :bluesmile Maybe I can manage it myself. I would get it alot sooner. :bluewink: DH is good at making almost anything, it's just getting him around to it. I think he would assist me if he sees me using his saw or sander. :nah:
Looks like I need to make a trip to Home Depot.

Bama I'll have dh take a picture this evening and post it. Don't feel about your DH. The only reason mine got made when it did is because I had signed up for a free motion quilting class today from Michelle Watts from Santa Fe, New Mexico and one of the items on the list of things needed for the class was an extension table for your machine. I told DH that I had to have one and if he couldn't or wouldn't make it, I was going to order me one from Nancy's Notions. At $70.00 plus shipping, it didn't take him very long to decide to make one and it took at total of about $20 in material to make it. Granted, it did take quite a bit of his time but I'm assuming he thought his time was a lot cheaper than shelling out the bucks for me to order one.
