Another idea is to do a 9 patch block of the person's choice or group choice ... just an idea.

I like that idea-especially if we did a 9 patch signature block then we'd have the signature of all our SWN friends on our quilt!

Yeah that sounds cool ... and we can state the town/state or town/province ...

To make sure I am on the same page as you guys ... the signature would be on one square of the 9 squares right? A light coloured fabric with another fabric and we write in the light coloured fabric part?

I am liking this idea more and more ...

I would guess what size 9 patch would be ... stop me before I go on ... :bolt:

Yeah and made with sewing hugs from your buds online :) How much more personal can it get?

One idea is to do in your favourite colours or theme that suits your personality or life etc ... or a colour in their choice ... ideas are limitless!!!

If we need a hostess ... I wouldn't mind doing it :) Gotta gain some experience and start somewhere! Never did a 9 patch swap before ... always a first time and I know I can be safe with you guys and helping me along the way :)

Both Americans :USA: / :Canada: Canadians welcome!!!

Hey Brenda we could do a 12 inch block, that is pretty standard, what do you think? Just 9 squares, nothing fancy OR anything goes?

I love the idea of 12" block and anything goes. That way not only do we get a signature hug from our buddies but we get their creativeness too! When you put your blocks together if you use a neutral color for the sashing, etc, then it wouldn't matter what colors the blocks are really.

When I addedto BRG's initial suggestion, I was thinking about the center square being a light color with the signature info on it. I like adding city, state/providence as well as the date to it.

There are lots of signature blocks, not all are 9 patch. Would it be possible to do it with different blocks, not just 9 patch?

Now Carolyn and Lyn have my mind racing. I say as long as it is a 12 1/2 inch block( so finished it would be 12) It could be any block we chose as long as there is possibly a neutral or plain square that we could put our name and where we are from. I think this swap is a super idea....and with so many suggestions, its only getting better and better...GREAT MINDS think alike huh?

Hey Debby & Carolyn, I like your ideas too......anything goes as long as it's a signature block and is 12 1/2 " square so it finished @ 12". That way you'd get a sampler quilt out of it! Great idea!

I think so too Lyn, the more different blocks the nicer it could be. I am looking forward to it. Hopefully it won't be for a couple weeks though as I am now involved in the Charm swap going on....biting off lots to chew...yummmmmm :whacky: :whacky:

If you do a google search for signature quilt blocks, you will find so many. I have lots of patterns in my quilting library. Would we send one to everybody who does this swap? I think we should. I want one from everyone. It would make for a different quilt. And one I can enjoy just for me.

I think we should make one block for each person in teh swap but send all to one person so that the one person can easily do the distribution. I would be happy to do that - no problem :)

Should we make a go for a sign up for this signature block swap or wait until fall or something? Let's count some heads to see how many are interested?

I think you should take a count. Count me in. Also, not everybody has an embroidery machine, so do you want to make the signatures done by hand. I have done these quilts both ways, one I did with my embroidery machine and one I did in handwriting.Any time is ok with me.

These are the people who expressed strong interest in participating this cool swap - rules/etc still in the works ... this should be swap with everyone's rules/input in it as it is going to be "ours" and "yours" :)

We can wait a little bit before starting this swap to recruit more "victims" into this cool personal swap - I am involved in 2 charm swaps as well as making other quilts ... and soon to start a new project for a future quilt for DD for Christmas (need I go on ...) What's one more; besides, this should be fun as it's personal and it's for YOU! :)

Some common theme for rules or suggestions:
12.5 inch blocks (so it will be 12 inches finished blocks)
signature block (unsure at this stage to go with same "block" or make your own block)
signature area (your choice: handwritten, hand sewn, embroidered ... whatever you want)

NOW I know what "siggy" means! Siggy means signature! I have been racking my brain and asked on one MSN groups ... When I see siggy I think of my sorority as we have "Sigma" in it ... in fact my sorority is Sigma Sigma Sigma so that's why. I think of sorority first before anything else.

Thanks for explaining this! :)

Thanks for jumpin' in your interests for this. Shud be cool and fun!

Will wait for MORE people! :)

If you go to the bottom and click on next until you get to the home page. They have about 40 pages of blocks.

Count me in for sure Brenda. I wouldn't mind waiting a bit for it to start actually. This is only my 2 cents, but personally I kind of like the idea of everyone using say their favorite block. Like Lyn said, that way we could end up with a sort of sampler quilt. I don't have an embroidery machine, so mine would be hand written with Pigma pen. I will go along with majority though gladly. This should be great fun!! :bg:

This sounds like so much fun, I'd love to be in too, but I don't think I can commit to it until maybe June, but if you all want to do it sooner, I'm sure I'll sign up anyway -- who needs sleep when there's sewing and quilt blocks to be made :nah: !!!! And for whatever my opinion is worth, I think it would be great to have everyone do their own block too.

I am going to go ahead and start up a swap for this ...

We will do a 9 patch signature block swap ...

Help me out with rules so I can set up a new thread with the official plan etc ...

We will do a 9 patch block 12" using the pattern from Quilter's Cache (thank you QC): http://www.quilterscache.com/M_O/NinePatchBlock.html

You choose your colour and the other colour will be cream or WOW - what do you think? You can do whatever you want in terms of signing the block ... the only thing I ask is there is your name and town and state/province ... you can use pen, thread, embroidery machine ... you can add a picture or whatever ... you can be plain ... just a simple 9 patch block.

All blocks will be sent to me and I will distribute to each one when all blocks are turned in. Make the number of blocks that are in the group (for example: if we have 10 people signed up ... make 10 blocks). Make sure there's an envelope with enough postage for me to send blocks back to you. Please make sure they are in a ziplock bag so that nothing happens to it.

Please help me edit the rules or anything ... first time to host a swap so I am a "virgin" :)

For Canadian gals - not a problem (I grew up in Canada and have been living in USA and sending stuff over shouldn't be a problem) ... What I can do is ask the PO how much wud it cost to send a package over ... and then when I find out ... you can send me $ (converted either give me CAD or USD) - doesn't matter ... I will be going to Canada in June so either way is fine. Or ... I can send a package to you from Canada when I go home in June if we all finish in time --- will go home for Father's Day weekend (you can send CAD $ then I will use it to pay at the PO when I mail it) ... my dad lives about 5 min from the PO) Would that be okay? Your choice.

Hey Brenda, just my 2 cents question. Are you sure you want us to ALL make the same block, and now with similar colors? I was kind of looking forward to each of us making say our favorite block. Since your the coordinator, you have final say, but I just wanted to give my opinion. Thanks for listening.
