I have to make a decision....(like I don't make them all the time, no matter what anyone says....) in 2001 we bought a new washer and dryer....they've been NOTHING but trouble. repair #4 on the washer was yesterday ( 2 control panels, 1 wash plate and one water pump), dryer has been given 2 control panels. (Kenmore Elite Calypso) (the repairman FROM Sears, asked if I hadn't looked into a new washer already....my jaw dropped....) So...I have the opportunity to buy a new Whirlpool or KitchenAid, front loading, on sale, WITH 2 coupons, but I have to use them before SAT. (my husband is NOT home as usual...) Shall I go for it ??? What do you all own ??? (btw the new washer/dryer replaced a 13 yr old Kenmore pair and they had NO repairs in all that time) Chrys

Don't know much about the brands you mentioned, but I have a Frigidaire front loader and love it. I would never go back to top loading. There are a lot of perks to having a front loader. My 2 yr old does the laundry (with my help of course). Mine are stackable (super space saver). They don't use near as much water. Our power company and water company gave us rebates because they are so energy and water efficient. I bought this brand because my mother-in-law has had the same set since the 60's or 70's with hardly any problems. That to me is durability. They only thing that has really changed from her's to mine is the door is plastic now. Turns out to be a benefit because her door is now rusting out. The insides are pretty much the same. I say GO FOR IT! Gina

I'd go for the new set. If you've had your machines repaired as many times as you have it sounds like you got some lemons. I love front loaders, they use much less water and are gentler on your clothes.

You said you've had them repaired several times and they are Kenmores, right? Did you have a repair policy on them through Sears? Because if you do, and they have come out for repairs 3 times in the last 12 months, they have to replace your washer/drier for you, free of charge. It's in the policy (though I bet most people miss that). I hope this can help you. If they have been out for repairs under policy 3 times, call up the repair center and ask to speak to a supervisor. They might give you a little bit of a hassle at first, but with a little coaxing, the free replacement is yours! This happened to my mom, and when Sears found out how unhappy she was, she got a call from the manager of the local store telling her to please come the next day and pick out her free washer! Needless to say that my folks will continue to buy their appliances from Sears because of it! |

Nope...no extended warranty....and they've been repaired once a year for the past 3 1/2 yrs....from 2001-2003 we replaced the washer, dryer, fridge, dishwasher, stove, 2 beds, lawn mower, shop vac, vacuum (and I tried to buy a sewing machine)...in that time, the washer repaired 4 times, dryer 3 times, the dishwasher 3 times, the vacuum, twice and then replaced. The lawnmower and the shop vac once each...ALL but the stove and the fridge are Kenmore....we are NOT buying anymore Kenmore products. (the sewing machine was an off the floor model they said nothing was wrong with, but it didn't sew correctly, it took me 2 mnths to clear that off my credit card, and I had no sewing machine.) One of the beds, the local store wouldn't sell me, because the salesman asked how I liked FL and I said I didn't....magically the beds for sale in the sales paper, in my hand were not for sale to me....I've complained to Sears Corporate, the local stores, etc....so far they can't be bothered to call me back or to acknowledge my letters....I've complained to Consumer Products, Consumer Reports ( I get their magazine), the Better Business Bureau....( I even tried the 'discrimination' thing....the bed salesman was african american and I'm not....that didn't work either) I ordered a new KitchenAid front loading washer and dryer....I'm going to try and sell the lemons I have....they work (they should after all the repairs). Maybe where YOU live, Sears takes care of their customers....not here. Chrys

Wow, Chrys, that's awful! If I got that kind of customer "dis"service, I surely wouldn't give them anymore of my money either! Good luck with your new KitchenAid appliances! :o) |
