Are these basically the same thing? I am finally getting into making my outfit for the contest and using a new pattern. From reading the pattern instructions it seams that they do the same job. It calls for very small amounts of both and I was wondering if I could just by one and use it in both the skirt and the blouse? Gina

Twill tape is usually very heavy....seam tape is usually light weight cotton (like quilting material). Twill tape is mostly used for heavy duty things. (lamp shades, etc...)

Thanks Chrys! I guess it is off to Joann tomorrow to get me some twill tape and some seam binding.

Twill tape has a visible weave to it. It is often used to stabilize seams and applied to the inside seam line, often used at the shoulder of a garment.

Gina, When I make T-shirts, the pattern calls for twill tape to be stitched into the shoulder seams for stability.. It got to be quite expensive for as many as I make, and one day in the fabric shop , I was telling the manager my problem and she suggested I use ribbon instead.. You know the very narrow ribbon you see everywhere in many colors and tints.. I have used it ever since, and never had a problem.. I first test washed and dried several different colors together with some white washcloths to make sure they were all colorfast.. No problems... Most you ever have to pay for that is 44 cents per spool or whatever you call that cardboard roll they come on.. I usually buy the 1/4 inch but sometimes for baby stuff, I buy the 1/8 inch.. Both work equally well..And are so affordable.. Sew With Love

The selvage edge of fabric works too.

I was going to mention the selvage edge of cotton for stabilizing lightweight fabrics. Dorothy |

Oh I am so glad I didn't go to Joann yet. I have tons of selvage edges.

I'll have to start saving mine.. I've been tying them in knots and throwing in the trash, but I would much rather recycle... Thanks..
