This is really a wonderful forum! I'm a began sewing a couple of years ago but put it on hold this past year. After reading this site, the sewing fever is back! So here is my next question.....what is the difference between a "topstitch" needle and a standard one? I did dabble a bit in topstitching a long while back but always used a standard needle that came with my machine. Would I need to use a specific type of thread when doing topstitching with a topstitch needle? Can the "eye" see a difference in the project done with topstitch needle vs. standard? Thanks to all in advance for any advice. Pat |

I have always used the regular needle for top-stitching, never have even thought about a different needle. Maybe this is a case of what you don't know won't hurt you. |

Top stitching thread has a little more to it, a bit thicker. Something like buttonhole twist. Part of a tip I sent out last week one day. Maybe the top stitching needles have a larger eye. I have never bought one myself.

Yep Mary's right on that one. The topstitch thread is thicker and the topstitch needle has a larger eye. In my clothing for me I always use topstitching thread and needle for suits or jackets, something heavier in weight. For something light weight I try a sample and see if I like it. In my GC clothes I don't since they were them for so little time. One thing topstitching helps to do is keep the shape. Summer Summer
