My daughter is a gymnast and those leos cost a fortune! I've made a couple, but I really would like to have four way stretch velvet like the store bought leos have. Any idea were to get any? Hancocks said the could order a whole bolt of it for me, but are unwilling to order it for stock. Thanks Carolyn

www.denverfabrics.com This has become one of my favorite sources for lycra and stretch fabrics. If they don't have what you need let me know and I will put you in touch with several other sources I have. I have been sewing skating and twirling costumes for years and have been happy with everything I have ordered from here. Grandma Sue

I have heard lots of wonderful things about this online fabric ordering company also: www.fabric.com Here is a link to their stretch velvet page: http://store.yahoo.com/phoenixtextiles/fabric-apparel---fashion-fabrics-lycra---stretch-fabrics.html Their prices seem very good. I plan to order from them myself, soon. |

I never knew there was so much available via the internet! This is AWESOME! You will have to forgive me. I have had internet for a while, but I never thought to use it for sewing tips and fabric purchases. Gotta go and do some work now. Have a great day! Carolyn

I really like the Denverfabrics shop. Some of the Colorguard and band shops online have fabrics for sale. I know that some have dozens of different lycra colors, but I don't know about the stretch velvet. Many shops like Hancocks will have that in stock come fall and winter.

I am sooo lucky to have my DD live in Denver and she will sometime make the trip to Denver Fabrics "bargin store" where the remnents are all sold. Quite often the fabric is sold by the pound or for pennies on the dollar. She will send me surprise goody boxes. She says its a thank you for all the goody boxes I sent when she was in college. I wish they had a way for me to shop that store online!

I have never tried making leotards before. I assume you need 4 way stretch for them???

I tried with the 'regular' two way stretch and my daughter said it didn't give enough from top to bottom. I noticed that the leos we purchased all had 4-way fabric. Same with her swim suits and other workout wear.
