I am working on several different sets of redwork blocks to put into varrious quilts and was thinking of doing something with alternating blocks. Was wondering what block would look good with my redwork blocks. I figured a puss in the corner and irish chain would look good but was trying to come up with other ideas as well. So far the only redwork quilt photos I have seen are ones that are only separated by a herringbone stitch or sashing in between blocks but I really would like to do a two block quilt. |

I saw a redwork quilt on Saturday that consisted of the redwork blocks and she just used a square of a red and white patterned fabric as the alternating block. She used a solid red fabric as the sashing and then used the patterned fabric as the binding. It was very striking. Patsy Patsy

That is how I plan to finish mine....with the red and (cream) fabric squares in between. I did my redwork on unbleached muslin so that is why I'm going with the cream. |

I ended up going with what I think may be called a puss in the corner block pattern. Mine is a nine patch varriation that has four patches substituted for the corner squares so when the blocks are all together it has a similar effect to the irish chain block. The eye goes diagnally through the two smaller diagonal blocks then a larger center block and the opposite two smaller diagonal blocks. It came out really well. I am very pleased. |
