Well I guess that it doesn't matter how old they get they still need Mom.
Yesterday my DD( the future Bride to Be) had her four wisdom teeth pulled out. She was a mess afterwards, along with future son-in-law!!! I received a phone call from him around 11:30, mind you all I hear on the other end is sniffiling from him, states it's "just a cold", asking if I would be able to come over to the apt when they got home. He said that DD was a basketcase when they took her back.
Like any mom, when you hear your "baby" or "babies" ,in this case, need you I go over. I stopped and pick up the meds for her, since he had his hands full.
Got to the apt. He's a mess, not knowing what to really do, she looks at me and tears up. "Mommy I don't feel good!!!!" I just told her that this just one more step to making their "Day" even better. Now she doesn't have to worry about them getting infected. Two had cavaties, the first she has ever had.
Told future SIL to get some ice packs and water, got meds into her and packed her into her bed. He left for evening classes, calling almost every hour to check on her. I wrote out all the directions for meds with times. Made dinner for DH, he came after work, he sat with her while she slept and helped when she had to wak to bathroom. Mind you while I'm cooking DD's cat is sitting IN THE SINK swatting at me eveytime I would turn around or walk by. He thinks it's a game. I turn the water on him once and he just sat there!!!! Future SIL got home and FINALLY settled down once he saw that she was sleeping peacefully. I got his dinner in the micro and left.
For me, it's just another day of being a Mother.
Checked on her this AM, she's doing lots better, is coming over later today so we can go look at her flowers, my BGF is making them for her as a wedding gift. If I knew how to insert pics here, I would show you. Will keep trying.
Well I'm off to finish cleaning the kitchen walls and floor. Doing two rooms a day, SPRING CLEANING!!!!!! YUK

Isn't that the truth, no matter how old out children get we still have that spot for them. Needless to say even us a child of our moms are the same way.
When I was 45 I had the big hysterectomy (sp?) and when I was taken to my room and awoke the first thing I said was mommy it hurts so bad. Tears streaming down my face, mom and dad just looking at me with those faces. Patting my hand, touching my forehead saying over and over it will be okay. The dear nurse said it is okay I am going to give you this little shot and all will be well. When I woke up the second time I felt no pain and wanted to go home. I will never forget how I just wanted my folks to make it all better.

This brought tears to my eyes ... I miss my mommy!!!! She passed away a few years ago but the feeling will always be there - I want my mommy!!! I am very fortunate to have such a great MIL I can rely on ... I love her and everything, but she's not MY mommy. You know?

Good thing I am at home reading/typing this.

When my oldest daughter had her wisdom teeth out she refused to have me take the day off work to stay with her. She was so sure she would be just fine but I insisted she at least leave the baby (year old) with a friend overnight and she finally agreed to it. She lived about 2-1/2 hr drive from us and insisted she was just having teeth out and she would be fine. She did fine at first and even stopped and picked up some movies to watch that night - then the freezing came out. I received a phone call about 7:30 that night with someone (wasn't sure at first who it was) crying "I want my mommy". She was talking so strange I asked her how many Tylenol 3's she took and she said not sure but a couple. I told her NOT to take any more and to go lay on the couch. I called my sister who lived about 5 mintues away and filled her in. She went to my daughter's, covered her up, did the dishes and tidied up. Maryanne woke up and saw her aunt and thought it was me at first and wondered how I got there so fast.
Bette "mothered" her for me ....and took the pills away from her and told her she would leave her a note where they were and she could get them in the morning. She stayed with her til she fell into a deep sleep. So nice to have sisters!!!!
I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

That is so sweet of your sister to do this for you especially when you are not close enough.

Daughters can be stubborn ... trust me I know (I am one of 'em). I remembered when I had my wisdom tooth pulled out (after 3 taken out the year before) = I was so tough and told my mother I was fine ... she is to go to wrok and I would borrow my brother's car and go into Ottawa to get the tooth pulled out. The dentist called my mom during my appointment = I was crying (I can't help with the pain and not knowing what they are saying as they had their masks on and I am deaf and need mouths to lipread). My mom offered to drive me home and I said no. I wished I took her up on it ... on the way home, I had to pull over two or three times to throw up the blood. Came home, passed out in front of the doorway. Woke up an hour later ... crawled on the couch and passed out. My brother woke me up and I asked for frozen vegetables (they make great cold pads) they are frozen but yet they move and can mold to fit your face. Best thing I had!

If your kid says they don't need you ... ignore them ... they WILL need you whether they will/won't admit it or not --- they will be needed in a while after the pain subsides.

Everyone forgets about when the freezing comes out. My son in law had vasectomy. My daughter threw him a bag of frozen peas and told him to go lay down. Good thing she never took up nursing.

Yes, it worked fine. And he let me know how unimpressed he was with her bedside manner. LOL.

Hey I know how men can be babies I raised 3 of them and their father. I let him do nursing duty now. It's his turn!!!! I quit. :dave:

I miss my Mom also, BRG. She passed away 2 years ago May 21st. What makes it so hard is when there is something going on in the family she's the first one I think to call and she's not there. She was always there even as she got old she always came through. I just hope I'm thought of as much when I'm gone as I think of her.
