Is there any place that would list the various kinds of fabrics, what their contents are, and basic use of, and care of, that beginngers ( and old timers) could reference to when questions come up about a fabric or fabrics? They are always coming out with some new blend of fibers to make something with and sometimes we just don't know for sure how to use it or care for it. If there was someplace that we could possibly print and carry with us, I am sure beginners woudl love that information. |

A reference like that would be handy but if none is available bolt ends should have most of that information. Dorothy |

Not sure if there is a free site for this but the Sandra Betzina book Fabric Savvy does a pretty good job.

This months Sew New Mag. there is a small table that you can copy to carry in your purse that tells you based on number what type of fabric it is and how to care for it....it has a yardage conversion chart, converting bed sheets to yardage and fabric care codes..... I can scan it in tonight (if my sweetie has hooked up my new printer) and send it to mary....maybe she can post it for printing from here... Jada |

Summer, yes that is going in the right direction for what I was thinking. Jada, I remember seeing that in the Mag. I will have to dig it out and save mine. |

http://ianrpubs.unl.edu/textiles/index.htm I might have even gotten this link from someone on Sew what's New. This link offers over a dozen *short* articles on sewing with various kinds of fabric, what kinds of projects they're best used on, how to care for them, etc. A chart would be handy though, in your fabric store purse!
