Hi, I want to make the following bustier from Burda and I have a question about interfacing. Must I cut it with the seam allowances or without? In other words, must the seam allowances be fashion fabric + interfacing or just the fashion fabric? http://www.thesewingplace.com/browseproducts/Burda-8601.HTML Thanks! Selene Selene

Often you apply the interfacing with the seam allowance then trim it off. I think it is just a little easier that way. Dorothy |

Thanks Dorothy. With this you mean that the seam allowance consists of the fashion fabric and the interfacing, is that right? Selene Selene

Selene, Yes, that's what I mean. But then you trim the interfacing close to where you baste it on. When I use fusible I iron it onto the fashion fabric before I cut the piece out and just leave it there as part of the seam allowance. You might not want to do that if you are using a heavy interfacing though. I'd test it first -- you know, make a mock seam out of scraps to see how heavy it is. Dorothy |
