I am making McCalls 4652 with short sleeves (view C) and attempting to turn it into a shirt (vs the dress as shown). My problem is with the FBA. So far I have done a 3/4" broad back adjustment per FFRP, lowered the armholes from the size 18 line to the size 16 line--- and they still are too tight-UGH! But when I went to do the FBA (per FFRP) and draw the apex on the front piece (twist), my apex was BELOW the pattern tissue. Uh, short of a breast lift (GRR!!l) what do I do? Oh, and don't laugh too much, this is only my 2nd FBA ever---I might be in over my head here! My only thought is to make the piece longer???? Please help! TIA! Jen |

I don't know what FBA or FFRP stand for. Sorry, can you enlighten me.

FBA= full bust adjustment; I learned (from sewing discussions on fit & reading alterations books) that making shirts using my high bust measurement to pick a size (instead of full bust measurement) , and then doing a full bust adjustment would result in a much better fitting garment especially in the armsyce (armhole). FFRP= Fit for Real People; a very helpful garment fitting book which details fba's and many other adjustments. Also here is a link to the pattern I am making : http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4652.htm?tab=&page=1 Thank you for any help you can offer, Jen |

Ok, I think I have all the adjustments made. The tissue fitting went well. But then I went to start cutting out the pieces, and realized that I don't have enough material! UGH! I'm putting it to the side in favor of sewing some shorts (That I know will fit--WITHOUT any alterations) for dd. ARGH! Jen PS: I'll update once this shirt from "you know where" is done! |
