I'm trying to make an insert hanky for a breast pocket of a young man's suit. My grandson is being Confirmed and said he needed one of those "crowns" in his jacket pocket! Thanks for your help. Maria |

Isn't it just a regular hanky, folded in a fancy way and stuffed into the pocket??

We used to make the 'fake ' ones to just stick out of the pocket.. .. Here is how we did them. cut a piece of shirt cardboard (or other very thin cardboard) the size of the pocket , but a little short from the top.. Take your silk or satin print fabric (that is what we used, for matching our ties we made) and cut a strip approx 6 inches by 4 inches. Fold the fabric in half, so it is 2 by 6. baste along raw edges and pull up gathers or make small pleats, then stitch it to the piece of shirt cardboard beginning at the fold and go all the way to the other fold so you end up with a half circle on top of the cardboard, then insert in suit breast pocket.. Voila! ! If you have some sort of stiff interfacing , that would work instead of cardboard, but for a youngster, the cardboard will probably be fine.. If he wants points on his, you can just adjust the size of your fabric, our men always just wanted the little half circle spot..

I usually take a piece of fabric about 10 inches square and serge around it with whatever color thread is on my machine. I then just fold in half, then "rainbow" fold the "hankie" and stick it in the pocket...it is just for effect so even the serging is just to make sure that it doesn't fray and to make sure that my son takes care of it when he is through.
