I have seen it sold that way at yard sales. Scraps I have found people selling for $1.00 a bag. For big pieces, I can usually buy for $1.00 a yard. If your little pieces are about a fat quarter size, I have gotten them for 25 cents. If you are selling patterns I have gotten them for 10 cents to 50 cents a piece. Sewing magazines and books I have seen $1.00 to $4.00. Hope this helps.

Well, for heavens sake, Mary, you can't sell fabric at a yard sale without letting all of us have first dibs! What are friends for anyway???

So if I leave today walking fast do you think I could make it to your yard sale?? You will wait for me, right?????

I bought a paper bag full of scraps one time at a yard sale years ago for $.75. When I got home, the bottom of the bag was full of pictures and cards, keepsake type things. I called my friend and said we needed to take them back to the sale and she said no, the sale was just stuff from some little old lady who had died and they were clearing out her things. I felt bad about those things for a long time..........................

I have bought fabric at Goodwill a couple of times. The last find was white with lilacs on it. It is home dec stuff I think because the lilacs just run one direction so it would make cute curtains but it is light weight enough for a quilt back and is 100% cotton. I paid $6 for about 7 1/2 yards so couldn't pass it up.

I tried to sell yarn and counted cross stitch things at a yard sale and none of it sold. Gave the yarn to a older lady we know and she was so thrilled she cried so glad it didn't sell.

There is a organization here called "Arizona Blankets for Kids" They take donations of fabric and make kits. Then they have special days where you can go and take your machine and sew quilts that they donate to several kids groups. I think I will do that rather than just donate it to a general thrift type place when the old stash outgrows its space..................

I sold fabric last year for $1 per YD. I measureed it all & tagged it with the width/ length/ & price. I sold about 1/2 of what I had. What I had left I gave to my MIL. she was packaging it up & putting it into her booth at a second hand store. she has sold some but most of it she is keeping to use as table covers & rags.

I've made a habit now of buying fabric from yard sales. I buy things there I would never buy at full price from a store, and have gotten a lot of practise sewing the "new" fabrics...and if I botch something it's no big deal 'cuz the investment was nil.

I won't pay high prices, though. I think the most I've paid so far was $3.00 per yard for some brand new stuff with the original yardage tag still pinned on.... Usually, .50 cents or a dollar for a yard is reasonable to me.

Oh geez. Hubby bought an industrial size bolt of cammo fabric at a yard sale several years ago. I make him keep it in the garage. Honestly, I was in the Army, do I ever want to see that stuff again? NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!! He's lucky I let him live.

I'm always on the lookout for GOOD fabric at yard sales, lol...and vintage aprons, tablecloths, etc. I would bag up the scraps, and sell them by the bag, and sell any yardage just like it is. I've also seen a lot of fabric already cut up for quilts - someone will get a template and cut tons of pieces, put a few together, and got tired of it. So Mary, there's no right or wrong way to sell it!

I have seen quilt blocks or quilt block pieces in antique stores...............and I see the future. I have some things here that I know I will never finish. My kids, bless them, are in awe of the quilting thing but it is just something Mom does.................so when I die, they won't know what to do with all this quilting collection and all my UFO's will be either in a antique store, a thrift store or yard sale..........................so I hope some fabric fanatic comes along and gets a good deal..................

Hey allie-opps I might take that Cammo off your hands. My little guys love to dress up like dad (Air Force).

Mary,

At my last yardsale, I had quilters coming up to me asking if I have any fabric scraps. I had just given away a huge bag on freecycle. :bang: Could of made some money on that. I live in the prime spot for yardsales. Between my neighbor and myself we easily bring in close to $1000 for a two day sale. Granted we are both habitual packrats and shop yardsales ourselves.
My plan is to sort my scraps by fabric content and put it in gallon size Ziplocs and sell them for $1 each.
If I have lengths I will list the yardage, price I paid, and what I want for it. Down here people seem willing to pay more if they know what you paid orginally.

Mary have you thought about selling it on ebay??

But.... If you do have a yardsale I wanna know 'cause I'm within driving distance of you folks in Halifax (am actually heading that way Tues for the Rodin Exhibit at the Gallery)
I'll bring the van if you are selling your stash!! :bluesmile or would I need hubby's pickup??

I have bought some fabric at yard sales but you rarely see it.

Pudge, trust me you wouldn't want it - first he stored it in the basement, which is wet and moldy, then the garage.....I'm sure it has all kinds of critters living in it. *shudder* He's a terrible packrat and can't get rid of anything. It's buried so bad I don't think it will ever see the light of day.

Why is a packrat always married to a clean freak? Is that a Murphy's Law, or something? :re:
