Hi all, I am embroidering a very nice pattern onto some purchased bias tape to use as an edging for a baby blanket. I am using the tear away paper underneath the bias tape, have made sure that there is no "drag" on the fabric feeding into the machine, as well as no "resistance" on fabric coming out of machine. Yet, for some reason, the repeated pattern keeps changing consistency. Sometimes, the pattern is as programmed, then it starts "squishing" itself. Is there a limit as to how long you can sew these things? Is it possible that the machine is overheating?

The machine is a Pfaff 1475 CD that I inherited from my wonderful stepmom, but the manual might as well have been written in Greek

It is probably a case of "operator error", but you all have been so helpful to me in the past, I thought I would throw this one out to all of you

let me make sure I understand you correctly, since I'm not really familiar with the pfaff machines... is this an embroidery machine or a computerized sewing machine that has a built in alphabet? there is definitely a difference... also are you doing this using a hoop, or just feeding the tape into the machine... if its a computerized sewing machine, I'm imagining you're simply feeding the tape into the machine... I'm under the impression that many of the pfaff's have the differential feed system.. you might experiment on a scrap piece with chnging your foot pressure...

just a thought...

I have that machine. It is a computerized machine with built in decorative stitches. I like it got mine from my mom since she can't sew anymore.
Let me get this straight. You have purchased some bias tape and are trying to do one of the decorative stitches on it? I have done this on organza ribbon for trim to a queens dress and had no problem. It will repeat till you stop it. Is the tear away on the bottom of the tape? Have you open the bias tape all the way? How wide is the tape?

I have this machine also. What stitch no. is it? I'll try it on my machine and see how it works and get back to you. I haven't had this problem yet.

PS- How nice of your Stepmom for giving you this machine- I wouldn't give mine away for anything- I bought it new 10 or so years ago.

When I got my 1475 we didn't have stabilizer (how's that for ancient) but it was 1992, the machine was newly out and the trend toward embroidry had not yet fully taken hold...anyway, we were told to feed of all things paper with the machine when we did designs and then tear it away. I kept long strips of paper available at all times. Enough of that though. Since you are stitching on bias tape which will shift and stretch with stitching, it is possible that the problem is with the tape, not the machine. My first suggestion is to add stabilizer under the tape as you stitch.

Catalina, it is stitch pattern 135 on original settings. I have not adjusted the sizing at all. It is double fold bias tape (purchased) and I am trying to embroider on just one side of the tape, so it is unfolded once. I have tear away stabilizer under the tape, but it doesn't feed consistently. You can't use the differential feed option when sewing decorative stitchs.

How are you guys posting photos to this forum? I took a digital of the bias tape because it would be easier to understand what is going on here, visually. Can someone tell me how to post a photo? :nc:

My stitched out ok. I use the double side bias tape and tear away, Foot 2, tension 4.5. Since this is a dense stitch I would go slower and maybe try increasing the stitch length to 16 or maybe even 18. When doing stitching like this I'd love to have the push button instead of having to use the foot pedal, but I guess even the TOL Pfaff doesn't have that for regular sewing. Good Luck- let us know if increasing the length works for you.
