My friend always laughs at me for this. But I am horrible when it comes to using patterns. I never learned how to adjust something to make it fit. But what I do is............if I see something that I really like, like a dress for instance. I will buy it and take it apart and use that as my pattern. It takes a little while to do, but I always get the right fit. lol, please tell me I'm not the only one that does this!

I have never done this, but the only thing that has stopped me is that I'm too cheap to pay for a garment just to take it apart. There've been times when I was sooooooooooo tempted.

I have saved items that I loved that just wore out, planning to take them apart to use as patterns, but I never did that either. I never really sewed all that much but now that my son moved out, I took over his room, and I have a PLACE to sew, I'm getting more into it.

yay! Glad i'm not the only one. lol.........Sparky....i usually go to consignment shops and yard sales for things to take apart. I did however take apart a dress that I had when I was a baby to remake for my twins. I loved it so much, and the dresses came out perfect!

I have made patterns several times from RTW . But I do not rip seams, I just fold and flatten very carefully to trace the pattern pieces, then add seam allowances.. Works for me..
