I don't know if any of you remember me- I haven't posted on this board in about 2 1/2 years (My login says "You last visited: 10-12-2003") :re:

I haven't gotten to sew in about a year either :bang:

But anyway- I'm picking up my smocking again this weekend, to make a dress for my daughter, who is now going to be 6 in a week.

I work full time now, but I loved this board and all the people on it so much when I was a SAHM- so I thought I'd visit again. I didn't think my login would still work, and was shocked when it did LOL

It's nice to talk to you all again, and I look forward to reading through all of the posts- I have a lot of catching up to do!

Talk to you later-

Meaghane (who loves to smock)

Meaghane, the last I heard, you were about to teach smocking. How are your dear sweet babies?

Hey Meg -- welcome back! Are you still in Arkansas? DH and I just came through Arkansas Friday on our way home from West Virginia. We came home the southern route this time because DH took me to Hancock's-Paducah as an anniversary present. :dave:

Sorry it took me a while to reply back to my original post.

First of all, Mary... Yes, I did teach some smocking classes at our local Hancocks. I taught the classes, four lessons each, quite a few times... but then, I just didn't have the time. I enjoyed it immensely, though!! And my babies are wonderful; My son is 8, and my daughter turned 6 a few weeks ago. Dang, time flies!!

Patsy- yeah, I'm still in Arkansas!! Are you still in Oklahoma?? I've thought about you every fall for the past couple of years, when the Vols play the Gators. :bg:

I'm doing great, I've just been so busy at work!! I'm managing my dad's business, an Interstate Batteries distributorship. I love it, but it's quite time consuming. I am also working on my Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; I lack two years, because I'm only able to go part time now, but that's OK with me. So hopefully, after two or so years, I can add "CPA" after my name!!

On the sewing side... I broke down and finally "almost" bought the machine my dreams are made of LOL. I have it on layaway at our local sewing machine store, and will have it paid for by the end of the month... (I DEFINITELY want to be able to play with it during the 4th of July, because I'll have a 3 day weekend :bluewink: ) It's a Janome Memory Craft 9700. I started to get the MC 10000, but I was told that basically, the only difference between the 9700 and the 10000 is memory space, and $$$. So I am BEYOND excited about that!!!

Well, I've rambled enough... again, thanks for welcoming me back.. I'll try to check in more than once a month from now on, HAHA, and I would love to be more active on the boards again. You guys are great!!

Talk to you later-

Meg

PS... Anybody know how Bama and Adva are doing?

Hey Meg I remember you. I just started on the boards when you disappeared but I do remember you. I think I started off as SusieQ at that time. Welcome back. I took a smocking class last month and loved it. There is a lady on here just a few post back that is looking for some advice on smocking maybe you can help her. Good to see you back.

Hey Meg!!! I just noticed this post! My kids have kept me so busy the past few months that I just get to scan the boards every few days. Now that school is out, I'll be around more often.
Long time no see. It's nice to have you back!!
Your kids are 8 and 6?? The last picture I saw they were just babies. Don't feel bad. Mine are 16 and 13 now.
Let me know how you like your new machine. I hope you'll find lots of time to sew.
Don't stay away so long from now on.

Hmmm..... where is Adva now?

BAMA!!!!

Soooo good to "see" you again!!

Yeah, I don't have any "babies" to speak of anymore. They are growing up so very fast. But I'm loving it... children are fun at this stage. My daughter just learned to read, and they are both getting to that stage where they have quite interesting things to say and talk about. It's amazing to see their personalities developing.

I can't believe yours are both TEENAGERS!!!! Good grief!

I picked up my machine two days ago, a few weeks before I thought that I could. It's everything I wanted it to be, and then some... I'm having a BLAST!!! I played around with it last night, and embroidered a T-shirt for my daughter, around the neckline and such. Sooooo much fun!! I never knew a machine could "sew for itself" LOL.

Again, so good to hear from you!

Meg

I'm glad you're having fun with your new machine.
Isn't it awful when we don't find time to sew for months at a time? I've done that too. You'll have to make sure you find the time now. It's not always easy with kids and working.
I'm getting another machine soon. It's the Brother 1500 straight stitch/quilting machine. It belonged to a "quilty" friend of mine who passed away a few months ago. It will be special using her machine. :bluesmile

Hi all
I just signed on to this forum--have been reading it for a couple of weeks now.
Meg, where in Arkansas do you live? I live in Gassville, which is just west of Mountain Home (North Central Arkansas).

wellll-right now I don't have anything specific going because I switching over my sewing room from my daughter's old room (smallest BR in the house) to my son's room (he moved out last month) which is about twice as big. Am going to make the old sewing room into a bedroom for my 2 darling grandaughters.

Have lots of great fabric and patterns for clothes for them. Plus I love to make rag quilts and blankets with fleece and flannel. I have had a bad case of the "empty nest" blues, but I plan on compensating myself  heavily next time I go to Springfield, MO.

Welcome Annie!

I'm in Texarkana- about 2 hours South/West of Little Rock. We're RIGHT on the Texas border, (in fact, Texarkana is a twin city, encompassed by both states), and about 20 miles from the Louisiana border.

Are you a native Arkansan, or transplanted?

I love Arkansas, and up where you are is sooooo beautiful!

Again, welcome-

Meg

Hi annie,
Welcome.. I visited Arkansas once about 10 years ago... My best friend lived in Hot Springs briefly, on Lake Hamilton, and I visited her there.. That is a lovely part of the country.. I really enjoyed my visit.. I bought 2 "Arkansas Diamonds" bracelets while I was there.. My friends Husband sprayed them with a clear coat finish of some kind.. They are still beautiful and when I wear either of them , everyone thinks I have a bracelet of Diamonds and emeralds, or a Diamond tennis bracelet.. I love my 2 bracelets..I saw some beautiful quilts while I was there..

Cool sounding bracelets!

My DH and I are taking the kids to the diamond mines this summer. It's pretty cool- you get to dig for diamonds :nah: The mines are about an hour away from our house, and only 20 minutes from my parents. Kids can go see Grandma when it's all said and done... that's my kind of trip LOL

We moved to Mountain Home in 1963 from California (Kern County). My parents bought a drive-in here. I was almost 10 when we got here and except for 2 years when I lived in the Wenatchee Valley of Washington state, this area has been my home. So I guess you could say I am about as close to being a native as you can get considering the fact that I wasn't actually born here.

My parents and my brother are all natives, and so are my husband, children and my 2 granddaughters.

I have been to Hot Springs a couple of times, but never to Texarkana. I am really wanting to go to Houston this fall to the International quilt festival, but right now I am not sure if I will get to go. If I still have a job, I may not get to take off from work, and if I don't have a job, I won't have the money to go.

It's always something, isn't it?

Annie, how far are you from Mountain View? That's where my Mom grew up; she always loved it there. Well, I say grew up- her dad was a superintendent of schools, and they moved from Acorn to Mountain View to Mena during her years at home.

Unfortunately, Fort Smith is as far north as i've been in several years. :nervous: Seems like there is never time to go anywhere anymore. Although, we are considering getting a cabin in one of the resorts for a weekend this summer.

We are about 50 miles from Mountain View. It's pretty there too. I remember when we were teenagers, from Calico Rock ( about 25 miles away) to Mountain View, the road wasn't even paved, but one week every year, the traffic would be almost bumper to bumper on that dirt road, and there were hippies from all over the state that would hitch hike the their folk festival every year.
