I'd like to personalize a fleece blanket, and was wondering what type of stabilizer to use. Most of the embroidery projects I've done so far have been on items where the back of the design doesn't show. How do I make the back of the design look good? Thanks!

I've used a single layer of Badgemaster on the back just fine. I use the hoopless method, hooping the Badgemaster, spraying the Badgemaster with 505 and then basting the fleece to the hooped stabilizer. Badgemaster is a very stable product and dissolves when it is washed. It is often used for making free standing lace. The trick is not to stretch the fleece when you hoop it or the design will draw up when it is washed.

Also don't forget to put a topping stablizer on top of it the kind that desolves when misted with water. If you don't use something on top your design will sink down into the nap of the fleece. A good tear away will work also on bottom. I like Pellon Wash and Tear. It tears away and then what might be left is washed away in the first washing. WalMart sells it, it's soft but strong. I'm with Pam, I wouldn't hoop it either I'd just spray the stablizer and then just lay the fleece on top and baste it around the edges of the hoop.

Thank you both for your advice... my personalized "Bob the Builder" blanket turned out well, and made a great gift for my neighbor's 2 year old!

So glad we were able to help. That's what we are here for is to help one another. Makes you feel proud when you do something nice for someone doesn't it? I feel that way.
