I decided I was going to finish or despose of all my UFOs before I buy more fabric and start something else.

THIS IS VERY PAINFUL!!!

I have finished so many things and given them away because I had fallen out of love with the project as it sat in my closet (including a scrap dress I made for Sophie (http://kelly.hogaboom.org/2005/05/and-now-for-break.html). Right now I am working on bedroom curtains I started a year ago (my son was born - a major interruption). After that I have a Halloween costume I never finished. Which will be lame to work on now but I will be happy come October!

A couple projects I carefully bagged and labeled and gave to Goodwill. This would include some crafty-fabric items and a skirt where I had cut out all the pieces but decided I didn't want to continue. It has been hard for me to work on all these unfinished items.

But OTOH, when I am all done with these things I will be able to BUY MYSELF NEW FABRIC. I will feel proud of myself that I don't have a roomful or closetfull of unfinished things. And I will be VERY careful about what projects I start in the future!

(praying for endurance to continue finishing these things...)

The scrap dress is cute Kelly, I like the sleeve and bodice detail.
I have a skirt from the 70's that I used to wear that I kept because I always loved the fabric and thought that one day I would quilt with it. Showed it to my skinny daughter who put it on and complained it was a bit tight! (That was shocking , I weigh less now than I did then but I guess time and kids have changed the shape of me) Main reason being waists were a lot higher then and she is used to wearing much more hippy things. Anyhow - she is keen for me to move the wastband down and re seat the zip and she will have a genuine vintage tiered skirt with the little lace petticoat underneath. That and finishing a pair of socks is all I have as UFO's at the moment. I'm going to try and force myseelf to finish them before I do the May block.....it could happen!

Keep at it Kelly, it will be wonderful to have a project done.
I need to buckle down and do the same thing, but oh is it hard to do that. But, I'm getting closer to getting stuff done. I have a pair of pants mostly done for my Mom, and a quilt done except for quilting (it's all sandwiched and everything, I just hate doing the quilting). And then a couple of shirts I made that are done except for the buttons. Everything only needs a couple of hours work and they'd be done..... Oh to have a couple of hours to work.....

I think everyone has the virus of UFO ... must have a lot of them in order to continue with sewing/quilting!

I have quite a few ... DH was shocked how much I need to do or hadda do ... I told him this year I will try my best to finish off as much as I can ... but I will still buy fabrics if I must have it ... however, I have started on some UFOs and also started/finished a few quilt tops (need to machine quilt). I am also learning to embroider (with the machine) so that's taking some of my time as well.

I am also starting a new quilt for my nephew - gonna attempt a Double Irish Chain with two shades of blue and white ... he moved to a new room and has three shades of blue paint on the walls so ... thought why not ... sigh ... what have I got myself into???

UFO support group anyone?

Yes! I would love a UFO support group. I wonder if there is any way we can help eachother.

I am feeling better after this weekend. I finished the curtains and have made good progress on a baby quilt. I started the baby quilt for my son, but am finishing it for my best friend who had her baby a month ago (one year after my son was born). So including the dress that makes two UFOs down, and a third started on (it's the restarting that is hard for me).

I thought the UFO-rphanage (http://www.ufo-rphanage.com/) looked great, although it is particular to quilts, not garments. I wonder if they'd take a bunch of tiny pieces I'd cut for a quilt I never made?

ETA - check out these tips on finishing UFOs (http://www.ufo-rphanage.com/finishing_ufos.htm)!

How are you doing Kelly? I broke and did the May block before starting the skirt alteration - but I have it pinned and ready to sew now. I'm am saving the sock for when I go away at the weekend as it is nice and portable - that means I am allowed to go and buy New Fabric foe a blouse pattern I have....doesn't it?

Yes! Hee hee... You can always count on me to enable any fabric-buying weaknesses.

So - my baby quilt has only about 6 inches of binding whip-stitching left! Then after that, I have a Halloween costume to finish and I am D-O-N-E. It's funny, it's my costume from last year (which I obviously didn't wear)! Oh well, this year I will be able to spend more time on my kids' and husband's costumes, since mine will be all done waaaaaaaaay ahead of time.

I like the encouragement and I like hearing about other people's progress (or lack thereof) on UFOs!

I'm in smug mode - I finished altering the 'vintage' skirt as my daughter keeps calling it and it fits her fine. She's happy, I'm happy! I altered a RTW top that the camisole straps were too long - a 2 minute job I couldn't be bothered to get round to. AND I altered my bias cut skirt that wouldn't hang right and re hemmed the whole thing. Just got the sock to finish off and as I'm going away this weekend that will be going with me.
Couldn't find any nice fabric to buy though so will keep my eyes open at the weekend.....

Well done on finishing the baby quilt -s'cute.

"Smug mode" is a perfect description. I went into the fabric store on Monday and crowed a bit about having my UFOs done and was met with frosty HOSTILITY by the store proprietor and her cronie... Whoops!

What about a UFO support group? Was that just an offhand comment or is anyone interested?
