Pin or thread basting? I have tried both and it seems pin basting works best for me. Anyone have any life-saving tips? I am about to baste my baby quilt.

adhesive spray basting is the only way to go for me these days. I hate pinning and thread basting. Patsy Patsy

I'm with Patsy. I spray baste and am happy with it-better than pinning or basting.

run and run fast to get that basting spray, 505? i think it is called, it goes away after awhile so no harm to babes and it will be gone the first wash anyways. i am a thread baster on my big quilts, 100 or pins on quilt drives me around the bend |

I've never used the spray adhesive - I tack (thread baste) - how do you get the thing flat and even if you then have to pick it up to spray - I always get wrinkles as I am laying out the fabric /wadding and top. Surely when you move it again, having placed it just so, everything moves? Do you spray huge lumps or systematic wodges at a time?

I ended up taping the backing to a table, layering the batting and face on top, and then pin-basting. I used about 90 pins, or 1 every 4 - 5" or so. I thought it went faster to pin-baste than to use thread, and it was easy to quilt with on my machine. I also only had one pucker on the side, which was made even less noticeable when I sewed the binding on. Thanks for all the tips! ... I am going to post a picture of this project when I am done. At this point I am whip-stitching the binding to the back. see the mundane life of a housewife.

my sprayed quilts are as smooth as can be, i spray one side of the batting and lay the backing on it, getting it nice and smooth, and then spray the other side and lay the top on it nice and smooth and not a wrinkle to be had anywhere. you can move it around to get it smooth, it is not like it stays where you put it. i love the stuff i also spary very lightly and evenly all across |
