So these are the newest trend for the computer. I have seen them on all kinds of subjects. Some customers tell us they have Blogs and give us the address so we can see them. Anyone here have a Blog? If so what kind is it, can we go visit it, and why did you start it? Boy oh boy am I being a nosey posey.

I used to have a blog... I have an account on > > Live Journal (http://www.livejournal.com/)<<, which is free. I just used it to keep track of my gardening notes. I prefer a real paper journal, but I kept misplacing it. When I accidently left it out outside it got soaked I started the online thing.

It's okay. I didn't find it terribly convenient for what I was doing, but I think they have some real good uses:

-online diaries, if you don't mind everyone in the world reading.
-a newsletter type thing for family and friends.
-a day-to-day log of a long-term project (real nice if several people are trying to work together).
-a place to post copies of important (but not private) documents for later retrieval in case of problems.

They can be customized a bit as to appearance, but most of the advanced functions cost a little bit.

I have noticed blogs popping up as well. I was thinking of starting one for the site. Just a few details about stuff behind the scenes. No, can't tell everything but sometimes an explanation for disruptions, etc.

I think most of what I have seen is quite personal. It's fine for family and friends when they want to keep in touch. I don't know if site blogs like what I had in mind are prevalent.

Here's a dumb question for you........still not sure what a "blog" is. Is it like a web page that you put together?

Blog is short for web log. I had one for a while, out of curiosity, because so many people are doing the "live journal" thing but I deleted it after a while. I seems a little bit to invasive to me. I only had some crafty pictures on mine.

Most I have seen are a bit too personal to be putting out the on the web. And with internet crime becoming rampant it seems like an invitation for trouble.
I see a lot trend of young people that are doing this and thing nothing of laying it all out there including where they live and go to school.
Don't be so open minded your brains fall out.

Mt daughters both keep blogs, DD1 has it such that you require a password to visit it - therefore I do not. I have no desire to ask her for a password. She used to have one open and was aware that I read it - it gave me an insight as to her emotional state at the time and I found it most valuable.
DD2's Blog is also open but I do not know if she is aware I visit. I am very careful as not ot refer to anything directly that may be written but I find it invaluable in guaging how she is feeling about things and acting accordingly. I regard these not as personal property as they are posted on the web for anyone to read - for me, knowing how they feel is an adjunct to my parenting skill. We have told them about the fact that blogs are open for anyone to read and so be careful of the information that you put inside. eg no addresses etc. They find it useful in sharing their lives with their friends - they can keep up with each others blogs and see where their lives are heading.

Jane Austen used to refer to a young ladies journal as serving the same purpose - whenever she wanted to read something a little exciting- she could always read her journal!
