> > Is it hard to convert a jacket to a vest? It depends on what the jacket is like and what you want the vest to turn out like. For a ratty old jacket that the wearer doesn't want to give up I have just cut off the sleeves and collar and bound the edges. He was thrilled and can continue to wear his old favorite in its new form. For something nicer, I would lay a favorite vest over the jacket to determine the shape of the new vest and finish the new vest in an appropiate manner. Binding or just turning the edges, serging and topstitching with a one of the fancy stitchs that we paid so much for on our sewing machines works great. This is what I am going to do the next time it rains with my flylady vest and an old denim jacket. I never use the jacket, because the sleeves are out of style. I alway use my vest and sometimes it needs to be washed. I want lots of pockets in my new vest and this is a cheap and easy way to get them. Melanie
