I am seeing some wonderful oriental prints, but I can't seem to find just the right pattern to use them. I bought a beautiful Kaufman print and finished the top today, but it just isn't what I envisioned. Has anyone seen any pattern books or a pattern that uses these lovely prints? Thanks for your help

Kamiko Sudo has LOTS of quilting books out for Asian prints. I also like using MY Asian prints in a more 'modern' quilt. (not so many little squares and busy quilts) It makes the beautiful prints easier to see and appreciate.

I have a new book called 'Circle Play' by Reynola Pakusich, that uses Asian prints in circles within squares. WOW....

(I'm an Asian print fabric ADDICT !!!!!!!!!!!. In fact thats about all I buy except for solids/marbles...I just got some V E R Y nice brocade from Equilter
to make pillows for my new sectional. (and whatever else I can make out of it :bg: )

Stained glass ??? (I have some patterns I got at my local fabric shop that are 3-4 pieces cut in a pattern thats put together with sew sheer and edged in bias...it looks like stained glass, sorta..the patterns are by a local woman. I understand they're not widely available..but they're easy and make use of Asian prints in a VERY good way.)

Chrys, I can't tell you how thrilled I am to get your response! The top that I made is really pretty, all the colors from the Asian border print that I used are in the top, but it just isn't working--if you understand what I mean. I still have about 4 yards of the print and I was planning to use it on the back, but my inclination, now, is to take the top to the fabric store to see if I can find another fabric for the border and back, remove the border, and use that lovely Asian print somewhere else. Now, my next question for you is, if you could only get one pattern book to begin using the Asian prints, which one would you start with :bluewink: ?

Circle Play...(#2)

East Quilts West (Sudo) (#1)

Japanese Inspirations (Janet Haigh) (#3)

Circles of the East (applique, Sudo)(#4)

If I can get my hands on the name of the person who's patterns I've used to make some VERY nice quilts..I'll get it on here as soon as possible. Asian prints are PERFECT for these patterns....(I wish she had a web site)

Thanks, Chrys! I was going to order the East quilts West but was waiting to hear from you. I was at one of my favorite fabric shops today (spent all my money again :bluewink:. Anyway, I asked if they had Circle Play and she said they did but that there was a better way to make circles and showed me another book that used a circular ruler. She is having a class on this on on June 11 and I may take it providing I can get caught up on my other projects. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the new book :nc: I'll get back to you with it. But, she had used an Asian print for her circle block that she had made for samples for the class and it was lovely. I look forward to hearing from you when you remember the name of the pattern creator you had in mind.

Karen Haddix-Panattoni....I understand she's local (AL or FL down here somewhere and I've only been able to get her patterns through my local quilt shop...) Let me see if I can get my husband to scan the pic's and instructions for you....(I'm computer illiterate)

I'll have a look at quilterscache. I don't think I have ever visited there. Thanks for the suggestion! And Chrys, I am looking forward to seeing your pictures! That poor quilt I was working on has gone to be quilted. It doesn't look anything like it started out to look. I wound up with new border and backing fabric and still have five yards of beautiful oriental cranes on indigo background waiting to be used in something!
