Hello *waves* I'm new to the community...I've been sewing for 8 years and love to learn different techniques for sewing. My question is this: What is the best way you've applied trim (sequined/gimp/etc) to a garment or costume? and, quite obviously, how did you achieve it? I look forward to your responses! Best Regards, Avril "Yes my name is Avril. No, I do not pronounce it like that singer."

I tried to post this twice this morning with no luck, so I'll try again. The easiest way to embelish with gimp, cording, ribbon, strings of beads or pearl or even sequings is with a cording foot. Most cording feet are trenched to allow your the bulk of your embellishment to pass through the foot. There are all kinds and shapes. Some have holes in the top, others have holes that are above your fabric. When I feed ribbon through, I often will feed it through the zig zag hole of my presser foot (where the needle goes down), change the position of my needle, and sew down one side of the ribbon. If your machine does not allow you to change the position of your needle, there are special feet with a flat feeding tube that will allow your to move the foot like a zipper foot and can be used for ribbon. If you are feeding something that is round like beads or sequins, you can zig zag it on using clear thread. You can also use a pintuck foot for the application of small items. If you wish to do a freestyle application, you would need to lower your feed dogs and manually move your garment to apply the embellishment. This takes a little practice, but can be very beautiful. Using a foot, once your trim is started, it will feed onto your fabric, allowing you to just worry about the fabric or garment itself. Although these may not be the feet for your machine, you can view a pretty complete list of the types of feet that are out there from this location. The looks and availability varies from company to company. http://www.berninausa.com/search_presser_feet.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534 374302025023&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181831&AST_LOCALE=en&AST_NAME=USA&bmUID=1116878164046 pam

*LMRO* No silly! my Avatar isn't upside down...*giggle* he's s'posed to look like that and thankfully, no problem with Skeksis here either!! Wow! these are some great posts so far not to mention helpful! I'll always be coming back to reread....Magot...I apply trim by hand too...but am always looking for easier ways...such as machine application and paroper seems to have covered it! Now all I have to do is get brave "Yes my name is Avril. No, I do not pronounce it like that singer."
