Ok, I really need to vent off some frustration and I know you guys will understand! I'm left handed and I had surgery on my left middle finger almost a month ago, and I LOVE to sew and garden and now we have found out that my daughter's first child, due in August is a girl! and I had been sewing right up until the surgery and I am trying to sew again and this stupid finger in its splint keeps getting in the way and nothing is going right and everything I try to do gets screwed up and this has been going on for a week now. I can't even knit with this stupid thing and there is so much I want to get done before baby comes plus its a long weekend and I have to work the whole thing. Can you tell I'm not the type of person who can just sit and read a book?? I've read so much lately I'm tired of reading and typing with one hand and three fingers sucks big time. I am so klutzy with this finger, its like a cloud of little gremlins are following me around and I just now knocked a binder off the desk and all the papers are everywhere! I think I'm going to go cry for a while. Laura

I know how you feel. When I had thumb surgery on my right thumb (I'm a lefty too) the cast was on my whole hand up to my elbow. I couldn't sew, knit or crochet. Couldn't even take a bath by myself. Couple of years later had surgery on my left thumb and that was worse. Couldn't eat without making a mess, couldn't take a bath or sew, knit or crochet. I feel for you.

20 yrs ago, before it became popular, I had carpal tunnel surgery....
3 mnths with a cast on my right hand (luckily I'm ambidextrous), but I was also a cake decorator and couldn't work all that time...having your hands out of commission is a pain in the ***...all you can do it wait it out... :re:

Sorry to hear all of this Laura. I did a stupid thing once and slashed two of my knuckles down to the bone. So I had to wear the over size splint and bandage for weeks. I couldn't work, so I had nothing to do. I like you read but that got boring. They said 2 weeks, then had another 2 weeks. My only salvation was it was lousey weather outside. I can feel you pain

I've never messed up my hands much...once I needed a few stitches, but it wasn't a big deal.

But back when I was in college I accidentally spilled a full mug of boiling hot coffee in my lap. The pain was unbelievable! When I got to the emergency room they fixed me up pretty well, but for the next month I was scrubbing off dead skin and my whole lower half was bandaged. I couldn't walk. I couldn't sit. It seemed like I couldn't move without pain...and of course, I still had to go to school and take care of the kids and keep the house in minimal order. It seemed like everytime I got comfortable there was another load of wash to do or another glass of milk spilled....

You have my complete sympathies, and I hope you get better soon. :bluesad:

Thanks to all of you, you bring tears to my eyes. I knew I wasn't alone in all of this. I know it'll get better, it has come a long way since surgery, but thanks again for listening to my whining!!! L

Ahh don't feel bad, we all need a little whining time every now and then. Talk to me after I have my breast reduction surgery and you'll think you never heard such a whiny baby before.

PlrLegal...I just did a breast reduction March 3rd. Best thing I ever did. I love the new twins! I did a verticle. Took off 3 lbs. It turned out to be a very easy surgery. No healing problems and the scars are healing soo nice. I am using Kelocote on them. Also, just a tip, I started taking Arnica two weeks before surgery and had almost no bruising. I took it for two weeks after surgery also. It is for trauma and bruising. Also took Bromalain for swelling. Works well. Wish you well on your journey...you will love the results

stitchmaniac thanks for your well wishes. I'm a little apprehensive at this point. My surgery has been scheduled for July 14th. Where would I find Kelocote, Arnica and Bromalain? Also, did you have a lot of pain afterward? I'm taking a two week leave of absence from my job. I hope that enough.

You can get them both at any good health food store or on line from someone like Vitamin World. Kelocote is sold only in the Long Drug stores. Better than Maderma and you only have to put it on once a day. A little goes a very long way. I had to get mine of the net. Just did a search and took the cheapest. No, I really did not have a lot of pain. I took the pills to help me sleep more than anything. My doctor recommended a recliner for a couple of weeks so I would not try to roll on my sides. I am a side sleeper. My surgeon used a "hot knife" incision. So, for two weeks I could not lift anything heavier than a coffee cup. And I mean that literally! I don't know what kind of job you do or what kind of method you are doing, but if it is a physical job...two weeks may not be enough. All in all, it was the easiest surgery I have done...I have had eight surgeries.

Thanks for the info Stitchmaniac. I'll have to look at our local health food stores to see what I can find. I'll ask Walgreen's if they carry anything by the name of Kelocote for scarring. Also, I'm a legal secretary for the Oklahoma Attorney General's office so the heaviest thing I lift is a 25 page brief, occasionally. I think my doctor just uses conventional surgical cut but he did tell me that he only stitches on the inside and uses spray on glue and steri strips to close the surface wounds. He also told me that I will be able to drive after 1 week and he doesn't see any reason, unless I have some complications, that I can't go back to work after two weeks.

Sounds like a plan. Walgreens does not carry it. Only Longs. Go on line and find it. Mine came from MedShopExpress.com for $20.66 plus $6.95 shipping for no matter how much you order. Use it once a day only and sparingly. Very thin coat and 2mm over the sides of the scar. If it stays sticky for 10 minutes, you have used too much! All the other brands go on twice a day. They claim a tube lasts 3 months! If you do the anchor method, probably 2 months.
