What do you use to "de-sticky" your hoops? I have been working on squares for a quilt and hooping the stabilizer, placing the fabric on top. The first few were sprayed lightly with KK 2000, but even though I was spraying really sparsely the hoop got a little sticky. I quit using the spray, but wondered if the sticky will go away on its on or if I need to clean it off, and if I do, what do I use?

GOOP, WD40 (followed by a good soap washing), denatured alcohol.
I always use sticky BACKED stabilizer, I never have the sticky hoop problem that way.....

Gayle, I rarely hoop anything but my stabilizer and use a lot of 505 spray...I cover my hoops with Glad's Press N Seal; but I am inherently lazy and change it infrequently....I use "Sure Clean" which is found at beauty supply stores (we have Sally's here..) HTH..Paula

The goop may be the answer (I have some goof-off that I will try). The directions for this particular project were to spray the fabric, not the stabilizer (it's usually the other way around) and lay the fabric on the diagonal on top of the hooped stabilizer. I figured out that I could use my "fix" stitch and hold the fabric in place and bypass using the spray in this particular situation. Of course, I am doing redwork embroidery, a more dense design might require a different approach, I don't know. Anyway, Thanks to all of you.

I haven't tried this, is it easy to use? And, are there specific projects to use it with?

Anything with an alcohol base may eventually dry out your hoop and cause it to crack. I would be afraid that anything oily could leave a residue. There are special cleaners made for cleaning the hoops that are available where most spray adhesives are sold.

I use sticky backed stabilizer on almost anything, but it's best on knits to keep them from shifting. That way you don't have to hoop and make marks on the knits that might not come out in the wash. (it also doesn't leave stuff on the hoops that sprays do.)

I really appreciate the information you all have given me! I don't use the spray much, especially since the lady at the shop where I bought my machine and do a great deal of fabric shopping really advises against using it. But I do like the idea of the sticky back stabilizer. I will have to get some of that and try it. Can I use it for towels?

Sure just be careful when you pull it off, not to pull to hard and pull the toweling out....it works great...

you can also try "hydrostick" the adhesive is activated by water... when you want to release it, you simply add more water...

Well, I guess I'll be learning to use some sort of sticky backed stabilizer real quick. I just bought a Hoop It All that is 24" X 14" and you use adhesive exclusively.....no top hoop. It came with some stabilizer that looks like contact paper or something. I think that the other stabilizer (that I haven't used) is activated by water.

pam... i just bought the same hoop... haven't had a chance to try it out yet... too much going on this past week... we'll have to compare notes on this... I think it will be great for doing borders... especially on pillowcases and sheets... I'm not sure if we can use other "sticky" stabilizers with this hoop or not... not sure if they have enough "hold" you can get the stabilizer from the hoop-it-all site....

I think the biggest problem I will have is thinking "big" enough to do something cool with it. My dd's wedding dress has a lovely light weight embroidery design on it but when we went to buy it, there wasn't enough for the train but the base fabric was easy to match (Empress satin by the same company). I am wanting to do a light weight but fairly large design in the train. I was having problems even with the mega hoop designing something that would be large enough to look right on the train and even at that, it was just too small. This will give me the opportunity to make it big enough to make a statement....now I need to get the brain working. I may need to digitize the dress design and start from there.
